Trivia:

Less of a remake of the original "Giant Robo" manga and TV show and more of a tribute to Yokoyama Mitsuteru's entire manga works. All the characters were taken from "Babel II," "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," "Tales of the Water Margin" and "Tetsujin 28" ("Gigantor"), along with several others.

Director Yasuhiro Imagawa used The Rocky Horror Picture Show as a major influence in directing Giant Robo. As a matter of fact, Dr. Franken Von Folger's name is derived from Dr. Franken Furter, one of the show's major characters.

The 7 episode Giant Robo OVA actually took around 6 years to complete, from the first episode's release until the final episode. However, work began in the late 1980s, bringing the overall time worked on to around 12 years.
