Plot Summary:
Near the end of World War II, Seita and his younger sister, Setsuko, are left alone after their father leaves in the military, and their mother is killed in an air raid bombing. They end up staying with their aunt, but they don't see eye to eye and end up moving out on their own, making their new home in an abandoned bomb shelter. Now, with only each other to depend on, Seita and Setsuko must struggle to survive in a country being ravaged by war.
