Gendo Gets A Clean Shave With Schick's New Evangelion Campaign

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Shick Razors' 2015 advertising campaign tie-up with Neon Genesis Evangelion launched on Monday with two new videos that continue Gendo's quest for the perfect shave.

The first video is titled "Hige Sori ni Tsubasa o Kudasai" (Please Give Me Wings for Shaving my Beard), a reference to the "Tsubasa o Kudasai"(Please Give Me Wings) song that featured in Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance. Here, Gendo describes the new level of refreshment that humanity will reach with the Schick Hydro 5 razor. The video also features an instrumental version of the song mentioned in the title.

In the second video, titled "Shave Impact Hatsudō Jōken" (Conditions to Initiate Shave Impact), Gendo describes the process of performing the ideal shave, therefore initiating the Shave Impact, all to the tune of Shinji and Kaworu playing piano.

Aside from the Schick Hydro 5 razor, the campaign is also promoting two razor holders: one that simply sticks on your wall, and one that uses a light sensor to dispense your razor. Both are themed after the Evangelion Unit 01. Schick is also selling a limited number of "balance figures" featuring Gendo, Rei, Asuka, and Mari.

Shick and Evangelion have done tie-ins before, of course. Two marketing campaigns ran separately in 2012 and 2013.
