Overlord Chibi Character Anime's 1st Episode Streamed

New super-deformed short to debut every week, stream for 2 weeks

Media Factory began streaming the first episode of the Overlord anime's Pure Pure Purea Desu chibi character anime shorts on Friday. The first three-minute episode, titled "Owata to Hajimari," will stream for two weeks.

The comedy anime shorts feature super-deformed characters and air after the AT-X network's broadcast of each episode of the television anime. The first episode of the shorts debuted on Tuesday. Media Factory will stream a new episode of the anime shorts for two weeks starting on the Friday after each new episode of the television series airs. The Overlord television anime currently airs on AT-X on Tuesdays at 11:00 p.m.

The Overlord anime's main cast are reprising their roles for the anime shorts. Minoru Ashina (Kōkaku Kidōtai Nyumon Arise, Agriculture Angel Baraki) is producing, directing, and writing scripts for the shorts. Minoru Takehara (Agriculture Angel Baraki, Boku, Otaryman) is serving as the petite character designer and animation director. Studio Puyukai (Kōkaku Kidōtai Nyumon Arise, Agriculture Angel Baraki) is animating the series, and Medicrie is offering production cooperation.

The Overlord television anime series premiered in Japan on July 7. The story takes place in the year 2138 when virtual reality gaming is booming. Yggdrasil, a popular online game, is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.

Satoshi Hino (Log Horizon's Isaac, Yowapeda's Hayato Shinkai, Bakuman.'s Akito Takagi) is returning from the drama CDs to star as the protagonist Momonga. Emiri Katō and Sumire Uesaka are also returning to their roles as Aura Bella Fiore and Shalltear Bloodfallen, respectively. Additionally, Kenta Miyake is playing Cocytus, Manami Numakura is playing Narberal Gamma, Masayuki Katou is playing Demiurge, Shigeru Chiba is playing Sebas Tian, and Yumi Uchiyama is playing Mare Bello Fiore.

Naoyuki Itou (Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu; Digimon: Data Squad) is directing the series at MADHOUSE. Yukie Sugawara (Sword Art Online, Nanana's Buried Treasure, The irregular at magic high school) is in charge of the series' scripts, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Hunter × Hunter, Trigun, Jubei-Chan The Ninja Girl - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch) is adapting the character designs.

Kugane Maruyama began the original light novel series online in 2010, and Kadokawa's Enterbrain imprint then published it in print with illustrations by so-bin in 2012. Kadokawa will release the ninth novel on June 29. The first manga volume shipped on June 26.
