2019 Touken Ranbu Stage Musical Reveals Visual, Video, More Cast

Musical runs in 5 locations from August to October

The official website for the Touken Ranbu musicals revealed on April 16 the main visual, a promotional video, additional cast, and performance details for the fall 2019 musical.

The cast members for the new Touken Danshi characters are:

  • Hiroki Nakada as Akashi Kuniyuki
  • Kurumu Okamiya as Tsurumaru Kuninaga
  • Ryōsei Tanaka as Otegine
  • Shōgo Tamura as Kotegiri Gō

Other cast members and characters will return from previous musicals.

The musical will run at The Galaxy Theatre in Tokyo from August 3-18, at Sankei Hall Breeze in Osaka from August 30 to September 8, at AiiA 2.5 Theater Kobe in Hyogo from September 14-28, at Al Monee Thunk Kitakyushu Soleil Hall in Fukuoka from October 4-6, and at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo from October 19-27.

Isamu Kayano is again directing the musical, and Chūji Mikasano (Tokyo Ghoul anime) is returning to write the script. Shinnosuke Motoyama (Hakuōki, Vampire Knight musicals) is again in charge of choreography and staging.

In addition, the "Kashū Kiyomitsu Solo Performance" event will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on May 7. The event ran in Shanghai, Bangkok, and Macau in April. The Musical Touken Ranbu Higekiri Hizamaru Sōki Shutsujin 2019 (Higekiri Hizamaru Duo Performance; seen right) stage musical will also run at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Stellar Ball on July 4-14.

The Touken Ranbu Mihotose no Komoriuta musical had a new run from January to March 2019. The play had two parts, and the second part featured a performance with new songs, costumes, and staging.

The related "Kashū Kiyomitsu Solo Performance," which featured actor Ryūji Satō in live performances as his character Kashū Kiyomitsu, ran in Tokyo on September 12-17, in Miyagi on September 20-21, in Osaka on October 6-8, and then in Hokkaido on October 13. The musicals ran a similar event last year.

Touken Ranbu - Atsukashiyama Ibun, the first stage musical, held its first trial performance in 2015, with its debut run held from May to June 2016. The second musical, Touken Ranbu - Bakumatsu Tenrōden, ran from September to October 2016, with a final performance in Tokyo in November 2016. Touken Ranbu Mihotose no Komoriuta, the franchise's third stage musical, ran from March to April 2017. Touken Ranbu - Tsuwamono Domo ga Yume no Ato, the fourth stage musical, debuted in December 2017 and ran through January 2018. The fifth stage musical, Touken Ranbu: The Musical "Musubi no Hibiki, Hajimari no Ne," debuted in March 2018 and had its final performance in May 2018. The fifth musical received 4DX screenings on November 9.

The franchise also has a separate series of stage plays. The fifth stage play ran from June 2 to July 29. A new stage play will debut in 2019.
