Kana-Boon's Bassist Yūma Meshida Leaves Rock Band

Meshida had been on hiatus from band for treatment after June disappearance

The official website for rock band KANA-BOON announced on Tuesday that bassist Yūma Meshida is leaving the band. The announcement included personal statements from all of the band members, and Meshida said he believes the decision is "the best choice" for him now.

Meshida explained that he was diagnosed with mental illness, but he does not know how many months or years recovery will take. He said that "making all the fans and band members supporting me wait like this" and having KANA-BOON's activities halted is "the absolute worst." Meshida also thanked his fans and fellow band members for their support up to now.

The band's vocalist and guitarist Maguro Taniguchi said, "Meshida will not join in KANA-BOON's music in the future, but the band will continue to exist even stronger. We will make music, have tours, and face evolution and change with hope."

The band's other members reported on June 13 that they had been unable to contact Meshida since June 5. Meshida's family contacted police, and the band cancelled a planned performance on June 15. Meshida had returned home to his family as of June 16. According to his family, Meshida was exhausted but unhurt. Meshida began receiving treatment and went on hiatus from his band activities in June.

KANA-BOON formed in high school in 2008, and released their first single in 2013. They have released four studio albums. The group have performed theme songs for the Naruto Shippūden, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, The Perfect Insider, and Karakuri Circus anime series, and the Boruto -Naruto the Movie- anime film. Most recently, they are performing the opening theme song for the Sarazanmai anime.
