The Theater of War Heats Up with Vagrant Armies and New Commands!

BURLINGAME, Calif. – Dec. 10, 2025 – Today, KOEI TECMO America and developer Kou Shibusawa announced that pre-orders are now open for their ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS series' 40th anniversary title: ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE: Destiny and Strategy Expansion Pack Bundle. In celebration, a new trailer has been released along with the first information regarding new commands and vagrant armies. The tactical strategy game will be available in North America digitally on Windows PC via Steam® on Jan. 29, 2026.

ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE: Destiny and Strategy Expansion Pack Bundle is a bundle of ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8, the first large-scale remake in the ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS series, and the “Destiny and Strategy Expansion Pack,” adding many new elements to the tactical simulation. In this title, new commands have been added to provide a broader, limitless RTK experience, including many commands that can be performed without the use of “Gems.” In Parliament, it's now possible to offer the position of Ruler to another officer with "Abdicate." Meanwhile, the Viceroy and Governor can now change sides (which includes changing the city to a different force) by using "Defect," allowing players to play from a new position in the middle of the game, greatly changing the battlefield situation while also enjoying a completely different style of officer play.

Additionally, new interaction commands "Incite" and "Cut Ties" have been added. With "Incite" it's possible to form a vagrant army under the leadership of someone the player is interacting with; and with "Cut Ties" players can dissolve friendships and annul pledges between sworn siblings and spouses. Not only that but "Extort" has been added as a city command, allowing players to threaten the market merchants to obtain money and goods. Unlike "Loot," which can only be performed by officers belonging to a force, this command can also be performed by free officers in case they find themselves in a difficult financial situation.

The title also brings new elements to the gameplay of the chief of a vagrant army. For vagrant armies, employing prominent officers and winning battles against bandits will increase your "Might." Once your "Might" has been raised to a certain level, the vagrant army exclusive ending can be achieved. Not only that, but by increasing your "Might," players can obtain dedicated powerful "Gems." For example, players can deploy an army to a city far away with "Appearing and Disappearing" and summon bandits to several cities in one go with "Incite Bandits." With these new choices, playing as the chief of a vagrant army has never been more impactful!

ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE: Destiny and Strategy Expansion Pack Bundle is currently in development and is scheduled to release digitally Jan. 29, 2026 on Windows PC via Steam®. The game will include Japanese and Chinese voices with English texts only.

Everyone who purchases a digital edition of ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE: Destiny and Strategy Expansion Pack Bundle up to the first two weeks after release will receive the “Loyal Han Retainer Ma Teng” scenario as an early purchase bonus.
