actually, fans of the OreTachi galge were a bit annoyed by the fact that the first anime ep want to amp up the fanservice aspect by miles.
That indicates the story will be a lot more serious than what it seems to be, at least the level of fanservice will be lower in the upcoming episodes if the studio won't become a cop-out. |

Enma-kun is based on Go Nagai's manga.
For the last time, Go Nagai isn't an anime director, he's a manga artist, and most of the anime that are based on his works usually deviate a lot from the original, and meeramera is no exception. Most of the humor in meeramera cannot be found in the original manga, so most of it were probably made up by the GGG staff (gaogaigar). Go Nagai is not even writing it and he's not part of the staff other than being the original creator of Enma-kun. |

Yes, I am aware of that. Shows based on his work are inexorably tied to him; they are usually described using his name and all share very, very similar qualities. I can say "Go Nagai comedy" and people familiar with his work will know exactly what I am talking about. Just as any adaptation of Toriyama's manga is described as being very Toriyama-esque, even though he was not involved with the production itself. |

Nope. It's a countdown to a lesser fraction. I enjoyed Tiger & Bunny, but I've decided to wait on some of these other shows for a few weeks. Especially with a show like Steins;Gate, which looks like a show that will need 4 episodes at least to inform me as to whether it makes any sense. |

well I really wasn't really talking about quality they did do dragon crisis and kore on zombie last season and they looked really good, I was more on the lines of the material in the series in whole, I never thought I would see them do a show like that. |

Here are a few examples of bizarre dissonance between first impression and actual content: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's first broadcasted episode was hilariously disastrous. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles' tone changed radically in its latter half. Madoka Magica's opening and promotional artwork are nothing like the actual show. The first episode of Dance in the Vampire Bund. Some people have mentioned that the first episode of Without Wings may be pure trolling, just to get more attention. |

i've read the same story (youkai stealing human faces) in the manga and while it has its moments of comedy, it's nowhere as much as the anime. all of the jokes like Harumi thinking to herself, or Kappa in an american costume etc seem to be exclusive to the anime. The big difference with the manga here is that the jokes are created on the spot, while Go Nagai jokes are mostly situational. I'm just not getting the Go Nagai vibe, except for that grandma and her spinning tits. Overall I prefer the manga version of that same story because it had a more natural flow to it, rather than trying to cram in as many jokes as possible to get your attention. Well I hope it caught on with other people, because I do expect some nice drama to go along with it, especially with an op like that, you just can't do every episode of it a full comedy like this one. OK, that's fair on the dissonance (though I wouldn't call Haruhi Suzumiya's first ep disastrous). Tower of Druaga's another series for that list you've got. I do think that in this context though, there isn't much reason to expect meaningful improvement with this show given what the reviews are saying about it and all the prevalent fanservice content that is in it. Unless the source material is seriously different from most other things like it, I don't put too much stock in the purported exaggeration that the anime is doing. It'd be too strange for this to go from a simple "yup, we're selling sex" show to Kanon-lite or Clannad-lite or something. But hey, I've been wrong before. Maybe the extremely bad odds will be beat, though I won't count on it and the first episode is nothing I'd willingly watch regardless. |

Ok, anyone who really didn't enjoy the first episode of OreTsuba should probably drop it, because where it is heading most likely won't be a pretty sight. Clannad had 3.16 MB of text and its anime had 49 episodes and still plenty of stuff from the VN was left out. OreTsuba has 3.77 MB of text (not counting Prelude and After story) and the anime has only 12 episodes! I think you can see what I'm trying to say?
I found the fanservice in the start easy to ignore because it was shown in quick flashes and I was more interested in figuring how could that situation be possible based on what I know of the characters (two of them go to different shools). The marathon panty flashes in the Shuusuke and Hayato parts were a lot harder to ignore because the screen was full of panties and censor tape (neither which I was interested in seeing) for a much longer time. The Kinako panties incident was much more innocent in the VN (you could see something like only 1/3 of the panties and since the CG was drawn by Nishimata Aoi there was nothing sexual about them) and was played for laughs. Alice's adult panties were never shown in the VN.
Steins;Gate's setting is Akibahara, not having a maid would surely be criminal in some way. And that miko isn't technically a miko despite working as miko, you will see what I mean if you watch the next episode. |

I actually liked the first episode of OreTsuba myself. I don't think I have ever seen so much fanservice in short amount of time in a show as this one has. Being a fan of VN adaptions I will most likely follow this one through to the end.
Sket Dance wasn't too bad overall. I just wish that spoiler[more of why the guy being bullied standing up to his bully would be so bad for him would be explained.] If this show turns out good, it might do well in the Western market. |

This season is a improvement from last season. I'll be looking to watch 3 series instead of just one from the abysmal winter season.

Health and Physical Education for 30-year-olds was terrible. Censorship can be used effectively as a comedic device, like in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei or Arrested Development, but this series can't make it work. It doesn't look like the uncensored version is going to be any better, either.
So far, I'm sticking with Tiger and Bunny, Hanasaku Iroha, Steins;Gate and Sket Dance. |

..... She's not a miko in spite of working as a miko. You know that the definition of being a miko is working as a miko, right? And my point wasn't whether the plot comes up with some justification for them, my point was that the real reason for them being there was because the database makes them obligatory elements in any successful anime at this point. It's a cheap tactic to appeal to otaku who like the same repetitive elements. I know myself well enough to know that it will likely bug me, a lot. And as I said, there were other things that irked me in this first episode, primarily Mayuri. I take it she's supposed to be an adult, but her mannerisms come across to me as either cognitively or developmentally disabled, and it's hard for me to laugh about a character like that. Well, okay, Osaka in Azumanga Daioh! was funny, but she wasn't in a serious mind-screw piece. It felt out of place. If I don't wind up with any other shows this season, I will probably watch the second episode, I just didn't feel a burning need to after this one. I can get mind-screw elsewhere, without the annoying elements. EDIT: Rre: Zac's comment in his Enma-kun review, one of my guilty pleasures is the often-adolescent humor in (the non-Z part of) Dragon Ball. How does the juvenile humor in this stack up compared to that? |

I agree with that, I like her, but I really hope that the series isn't going to have multiple incidences of her being traumatised in some way or another by disturbing stuff happening that she may well be ill-equipped to cope with. We'll see though, so far I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. |

(Spoiler for what should be revealed in second episode and has already been revealed in the character profile on the official website) spoiler[Miko are female, and he isn't.] Edit: Now that I think about it that's not really helping with your initial complaint, because now Rukako is catering to two different fetishes instead of one. Damn! |
