There is so many Gundam series and movies out there, I have no idea which one is worth buying, is there a specific Gundam series out there that is the best?

That's a hard question to answer. A question that would ellicit a shorter response would be "Which gundam series are NOT worth buying." I still can't give you a definite answer since it'll be just my opinion. All of the gundam series are worth watching except:
SD Gundam G-Gundam As for what I'd recommend you get FIRST, I HIGHLY recommend Gundam SEED. Not that the rest aren't worth your money, it's that Gundam SEED is one of the better (IMHO) gundam series to have come out in a long while that is NOT of the U.C. continuity. |

Though I don't like SEED I guess it would be a good introduction to Gundam. It has "alot" of similarities with previous Gundams but at the same time has it's own things going for it.

The one I hated the most was 08th MS Team. Gundam Wing is entertaining at times, but the story is a complete train wreck. SD Gundam is just fluffy kiddy fare. I could never get into G Gundam. Some people like it, but its not really Gundam like at all. More like a cheesey combination of a super robo show and a fighting anime. My favorite so far has been the original though, Mobile Suit Gundam from '79. I don't think you can go wrong with that one. Great story, great charcters, even the battles are better imo. Its a classic that transformed anime's future. The "sequel" Zeta just go released, it also has a very positive repuation, but I can't say anything on it becuase I haven't watched it yet.

Eh...hard to say which Gundam title is the "best," but there are few that I would rather enthusiastically recommend over the rest. Mobile Suit Gundam (either the series or the movie trilogy), Zeta Gundam, & Char's Counterattack all give you the original Gundam saga, which still remains pretty much the ideal to this day in both the quality of its characters and its story (Double Zeta goes in between Zeta & CCA, but it's apparently a rather drastic letdown and the aforementioned three can be enjoyed without it). Then there are the OVA series (08th MS, 0080, & 0083), which all help to flesh out the world of Gundam around the time of the conflict in the original series; 08th MS Team focuses on the common soldier, 0080 on civilian life, and 0083 bridges the gap between Mobile Suit Gundam & Zeta Gundam (it gets flak because the main character's irritating and the technology is anachronistic to the rest of the timeline, but I personally enjoyed it nonetheless). As for Gundam series not set in the Universal Century, I'd have to put Gundam SEED (and as a result, SEED Destiny) at the top of the list. It's essentially re-imagining old-school Gundam for a new generation of fans, and it does an excellent job of incorporating old and new ideas and having them work. Next to SEED, I'd have to recommend Turn-A Gundam. A lot of people don't like it because of the mech designs, but it has a really nice story regardless, and manages to take Gundam in a completely different direction and make it work extremely well. |

As previously mention by several people, I think Gundam Wing is by the far the easiest series to start with. I mean without GW, my fuel for anime would never had ignited. Seriously Gundam Wing at times is very basic, but the story does give a little better toward the end of the series. But I think this is a great way to start people in the mecha anime, I find that most UC are harder for people to enjoy without some previous anime watching. I am sorry this might be a tad off topic as well but if anyone here has seen FMP(Full Metal Panic) does Sosuske(sorry for the spelling) not only look like Heero but also has the same behavior? Anyways that's about it for the Delta, I am going to sleep and wrap some gifts for Xmas. Happy Holidays.

But are any of them worth buying? I mean sure I’ve seen most of Gundam wing on cartoon network many moons ago. I remember really likening it, but much like Dbz if I watched it now I would probably think its trash. I'm looking for an exceptional series that can rival something like a trigun or Record of loudus war. Something that I will be proud to have in my personal collection.

Turn A Gundam will also be hard to get into because it moves REALLY SLOW. It took me 3 weeks to watch disc 3 of my DVD set without falling asleep.

If you've already been introduced to anime, I see no reason for checking out Gundam Wing. Really, it gained its huge reputation which has since disapated because it was one of the first animes brought over on Cartoon Network, back when the fandom was a whole lot smaller. It has serious flaws. The characterization is incredibly stilted, and the story is contorted beyond compreshension. They're also more like super robos than Gundams who go through like a 1,000 enemy mobile suits with little effort. I wouldn't really suggest anyone spending good money on it in this day and age if you have never seen it before. I think alot of this generation's fans would probably get fed up with it.

Yeah I agree, I heard its a great series though. I've seen 12 eps and still haven't really gotten into it yet, but I'm not giving up on it. Another one that might be a little hard to get into id the 8th MS Team. It didn't really focus on battles, so that may turn you off, I know I didn't like it very much. If I were you, I'd start where it all began, the original Mobile Suit Gundam. If you want to start with an Alternate Universe series, try Wing or X. |

It's obviously dated as far as the annimation goes, but I'd definitely recomend starting with the original Mobile Suit Gundam Trilogy. It compresses the original series into three movies rather than having to watch the whole thing. Gundam Wing or SEED is also a good start.
Also don't miss Zeta Gundam, The 08th MS Team, or 0083 either. All good stuff in my opinion. The only things to avoid have already been stated. SD Gundam is just kids fluff I couldn't get into it, and G Gundam only appeals to some. I didn't mind it once I got into the story, but definitely isn't a good representive of what the other Gundam shows are like. |

There are many good series to start with. I recommend starting with G Gundam, Gundam Seed, or Gundam wing. Most people I've met consider these to be a great part of the Gundam series'. I've seen G Gundam and it is a great anime. Filled with the usual action, love story, and great mechas. Gundam Wing is a bit more governmental, but not as much as the older series'. It's still filled with action, and a very good storyline. I just bought Gundam Seed DVD 1 and 2, so I can't really give my opinion on that.

Though 08th MS Team didn't really focus on battles that much, when it came to battles, they were always really good ones I thought. I really liked this series because it tended to avoid the typical Tomino over powered teenager and instead goes to a more serious approach with a regular squad. Gundam X was a great series, but I thought it had a lot more potential. |

Btw,i don't know if this question been ask or not, but i still not sure which type of gundam came first.As i know gundam wing is at around 1995.Does anyone can give a complete of gundam list such as gundam seed ,Astray, Special Edition and which one goes first.Btw,i am a newbie
