38 episodes on 4 discs sounds pretty damn sketchy to me. Neutral

Hahaha, yes! Anime smile I used their little "Report a Better Price?" button, hoping that they'd lower theirs. Time to go cancel my Walmart purchase~ With tax+shipping at Walmart, their total came to $27.

Received an email from Amazon informing me that the release date has been moved to April 10. The page for it has been updatedto reflect that.

I just got the boxset from Amazon this morning, and I'm sorry to report that the subtitles are indeed absent. Not on the menu, not selectable by remote, and not viewable when selecting Japanese audio. All four discs are like this! I even analyzed disc one with my computer just to be sure; zip, zilch, nada. However, the whole package is superb. The dics come in two regular DVD cases housed inside a lighty matte-finished slipbox.

I sent an email to S'more and posted on their Facebook page. I'll let you guys know when they respond! Smile

Sorry to double-post, but I've got an extra bit of odd news; the discs will not bootup again. I thought it may have been my PS3 suddenly going wonky, but other discs are playing fine. Seems there are other authoring issues afoot....

EDIT 2: via Toon Zone forums

disk 4 has PDFs of the translated Japanese scripts for all 38 eps!

From S'more's Facebook account:

Offering our apoplogies....there was no intent to mis-lead the fans. There was a mis-communication internally and even though at least 10 people proofed the packaging, the fact the packaging incorrectly said 'sub-titled' was missed by everyone, incluiding byTOEI. As best as I understand, the series was only available in Japanese language or dubbed into English, it was never sub-titled. Galaxy Express 999 will only be available in Japense or sub-titlerd as they never did an English language version (according to TOEI)

Well, clearly we are dealing with professionals! 8D

How do 10 different people not notice the lack of subtitles?! It doesn't matter if it's only available sub or dub - it should still have subtitles for the freaking show!

Somebody (or possibly a number of somebodies) were really slacking off (right down to the typo-laden Facebook message), and they've pretty much guaranteed that I will not be purchasing any of their DVDs until they straighten things out. It's a shame, because I was genuinely looking forward to checking out Bobobo-bo-Bobobo, and I know many others are looking forward to GE999.

Wait. If I'm reading that right, the lack of subs isn't the problem, but that the packaging sayer there were subs was. So, in fact, there weren't supposed to be subs in the first place, just Japanese audio? Did anyone else read it like that?

That's the stupidest [expletive] thing I've ever heard.

"Hey guys, we're giving you the Japanese audio that you've always wanted. Subs? What, no, of course we're including subs. Don't be silly. If we included subs then we'd have to make them ourselves instead using premade material!"

But wait, peeps, the subtitles ARE available...

...as PDF files on the fourth disk. Laughing

Unimpressive. Very.

So, going by that FB post, am I to take that to mean that Galaxy Express will at least be subtitled? Given the moronic way they released this one, I think I'll wait until some other fool, err, brave soul buys that first and finds out.

I fully believe this is an unintentional error on S'mores part as opposed to any deliberate attempt to pull a fast one. My reasoning for this? I don't believe there is a company in existence that is so stupid as to think they'd get away with a con like this in our wonderful, Internet-linked, social media world.

Mistakes happen and we shouldn't get too bent and twisted over this one; dumb as it is.
