I know that the Full Metal Panic series is based off of the light novels which, from the information I could gather, are still ongoing. I was wondering if anybody knew if the manga extends past the main plot of The Second Raid anime like the novels currently out do and if so will they continue following the books untill the novels reach a conclusion.

I think that the anime will continue on after TSR. I read somewhere that TSR was created due to the popularity of FMP and Fumoffu so if TSR becomes a huge hit then I hope we get a fourth series.

I believe the manga only covers what the first anime series covers. I think Overload covers some other side material, possibly some of the same stuff as Fumoffu.

I dunno, I have seen several scans of a manga page showing the scene in The Second Raid where Chidori has her stun gun aimed at that one assassin character on the rooftop. I don't know exactly how far the manga goes, but I'm pretty sure it at least covers up to what The Second Raid covered.

I think your information is wrong. The manga also cover fumoffu.
The first volume definitely had some of the stories from fumoffu and vol. 3 had some of the stories too like the Beach/Rich Kid one.
I only have the first 3 volume so far, but I'm sure it cover a lot more than just the first anime series.

I think that one is called Full Metal Panic! Sigma, and isn't really related to the first manga. The illustrator for Sigma is a completely different person than the one for the first manga. The first manga covers a lot of material that was in the first anime series and several of the side stories, some of which were in Fumoffu. From what I've seen of Sigma, it seems like it will cover the same material that TSR covered.

Conveniently, there was an interview with the original author of FMP! in the most recent NewType U.S.A.
The regular FMP! manga covers the same material as the original TV series (which would be the first three novels). Fummofu is simply comedic material from the novels that was not in the original TV series, so the original FMP manga may include some of that stuff. Overload is most or all original material. FMP! Sigma hasn't been made yet, I believe, so I'm not sure what that will cover.

If you check out the comments section of Full Metal Panic TV Series under the Anime News Network encyclopedia, it states the following:
"Full Metal Panic! is based on a series of novels by Gatoh Shoji. The first season of the Full Metal Panic! anime covers the first 3 novels, while the second season, Fumoffu, covers various of the short stories. The third season (aka The Second Raid) adapts the two Owaru Day by Day novels."
I think the manga volumes group the novels together and since each anime series are based on the novels, you can't really base the anime by manga volume like some other anime titles.

FMP! Sigma covers the two novels called, Owaru Day by Day. The two novels are the basis of TSR.
