I want to know what people consider to be the best anime fight scenes of all time and why. Please give details on why you feel this way. Or how the fight is one of the best anime fight scenes.
I am interested to know what people consider is the best anime fight of all time.
I'll give a short example. Cowboy Bebop session 1 Asteroid Blues
Spike Spiegel vs. Asimov Solensan
An extordinary fight for a first episode. How could they afford to include this fight? I suprised the company didn't go bankrupt.
What I like about the fight is that the animation is excellent. Constantly fluid and moving. This is in 1998. Cowboy Bebop is way ahead of its time. The animation is superior to most of the animes that come out today.
Thats what animation is. Especially when it comes to the best anime fight scenes of all time. Fluid and moving by putting life into something. (Not a bunch of stills)
The detail is spot on. The expressions on the characters faces are very well done. Asimov's reaction to the blows are realistic. The sound of the impact is also well done its completely believeable. The hits and blows flow together really well.
The music is excellent as well. Yoko Kanno is one of the best musicians. The sychronization of the music is smooth as the action unfolds on screen.
One thing that I really like about the fight is that its realistic. Realism is hard to achieve. Getting the precise physics and movements down can be very difficult. The movements look and feel real.
The physics are amzing. I like how the fight integrates the use of tables. Actual objects are being used. Another aspect I like is the interaction with the tables. Rolling over the tables. Spinning off the side of the table. Hitting the opponent with consecutive hits in a realistic and believeable fashion.
It's harder to make realistic fights than imagination fantasy battles. Especially when it involves special moves that destroy everything. And the detail value drops into an all time low. With just flashy lights moving across the screen.
But more importantly than realism is that the fight is believable. I think this is probably the most important thing.
The feeling that this can happen. A fight that is executed so well that it is completely convincing.
Even if it uses imagination and fantasy it has to be believeable.
Otherwise you'll be sitting there saying "this is Bulls***. Who the hell wrote this crap!" Imagination and fantasy animes can be quite believable. That is whats important.
The fight between Spike and Asimov perfectly achieves this.
And this isnt even the best fight in the series. Its just the first episode.
Another anime that I would mention for best anime fight scenes of all time is Street Fighter 2 V.
The animation is not the greatest. However some of the fight scenes are very well done.
It is very believable. The special techniques that the main characters acquire are probably some of the most believable techniques I have ever seen in anime. Ryu actually trains to use his move throughout the series. The technique was developed in a believable way. Through much practice instead of gaining the technique in one episode.
But the main reason i mentioned this anime is because of the sound effects. Not the music. But the sound effects that are used in the english dub are very powerful. Not the speech mind you. But the sound effects during the fights.
It is by far the most powerful sound effects i have ever heard in an anime. The blows from the hits sound so lethal and realistic. I actually cringe from the attacks being delivered.
Its the only anime I have ever seen that I actually can feel the pain of the hits when their being delievered. I feel as if Im actually being hit. Ryu VS Ken. Especially in parts like when Ryu jump kicks Ken in the face and Ken slams into the wall. Ken VS Vega. Or when Ken jabs his fingers inside of Vega's chest.
The violence of the anime feels real. The sound effects are over powering making the show feel realisticly violent. The sound effects add extra depth to the fight, making the over all fight much more powerful and real.
Not fake unrealistic stuff like being ripped in half by someones bare hands.
These are just two examples of animes that have excellent fight scenes. There are plenty more inside these series that would qualify for best anime fight scene of all time. And much more from other series as well.
So give an example of fight scenes that you would describe as the best anime fight scenes of all time.

I haven't seen a lot of anime fights, nor have I seen a lot of anime, but the best fight I've seen is Kenshin vs Saito in Rurouni Kenshin.
The fight was greatly anticipated, and neither held back. Much like Cowboy Bebop, I'd have to say that Rurouni Kenshin was also far ahead of its time. During the episode, the music was great that lead up to the actual fight, and during the fight episode, the sound was pure movement and sword clashing.
I'm not a very technical person, so that's about all I can say as far as the details go, but what really got me during that fight was when Saito used his belt to knock Kenshin's sword out of his hand. That to me was just way too cool.

I would have to choose the fights between Sousuke Sagara & Gauron in Full Metal Panic!. Of course, most of it was Gauron messing with Sousuke's head, but they were still pretty cool.
I would also have to say the fight between Kamui and Fuma in X TV. That also had a pschycological aspect to it as well.

Imo, it's common etiquette to delete the actual content of a double post (aside from the apology), because that way, you don't burn up too much space.
One of my favorite fight scenes: Scrapped Princess, episode 21, the dragon/mecha fight between Shannon / the Gigases and the three Peacemakers. Giant robots and monsters, characters flying all over the place, massive laser blasts + swords/spears, speed, and lots of random destruction all around--what more could you want? Beyond that, there's great music and other smaller fights taking place on the surface, with nary a dull moment to be found.

i hate you for beating me to post this!
((guess what i watched from start to finish today?))
god that was/is a great show!
now back on topic....
there's a ton i loved....
FMA:
--the fight in theory of avarice, between Ed and Greed. Greed was just really cool, although short, it was not only a turning point in the series but also just a great battle!!
--the fights Between Ed+Al and the two souless warriors in lab 5. Of all the longer anime fights i've seen, this one was well paced with conversation and fighting; perfect
Elfen Lied:
--Lucy X Nana, simply because i had no clue who would win, and also what Lucy does to Nana is endlessly hilarious, to me anyway. God i couldnt stand her at first!
Chrono Crusade:
--The fight between Chrono and Aion in episode 23 went fast, however they did a great job building up to it (by that time i was ready to jump in and rip off Aion's face myself;no villan in ny anime ever has made me actually hate him so much!!)
Conqueror of Shambala:
--the fight between Wrath and "gloutteny" was really just great, the end was emotional, and above all, it was the one time i didn't hate wrath!

Although not the most realistic fight without a doubt I will say the fight that has the strongest emotional impact for me is Amuro vs. Char's fight in Gundam III. Yoshikazu Yasuhiko has a unique directorial style that gives a very organic quality in both the characters and the MS. I'm torn between the original audio mix which includes so much music and both songs, and the 5.1 remix which includes some amazing sound effects in a colder warlike environment. Everything in the series until this point was leading to this final ultimate battle. Despite all the mass insanity going on around the A Boa Ku these two are only thinking about defeating each other. Amuro swatting aside enemy MS while being in an Newtype zen-like connection with Char is so intense. The fight is so personal since both parties want to avenge Lala's death. To me this part of the fight remninds me of the saying " I never felt more alone then when I was in a room full of people." The scene Gundam shooting the Jiong where the Gundam cockpit is, while the Jiong shoots the Gundam where the Jiong cockpit is amazing. This leads us to the famous scene where the Gundam fights on even without a head and arm. The namesake of the show whose name struck terror into enemy hearts is being melted! After there MS are slagged Amuro and Char get into an old west style showdown complete with elongated shadows. The fight is far from over, hence why I call it Amuro vs. Char instead of Gundam vs. Jiong. After they run out of ammunition we enter the antique sword fight in zero g. While the two characters skewer each other (height of physical pain here) they come into a newtype lock with Lala's ghost. As if the threat level was not high enough this is all going on while the A Boa Ku they are in is blowing up. The battle reaches it's climax as Char's sister and Amuro's comrade Sayla Mass finds them. The two groups are seperated by a large explosion where Amuro finds refuge in what is left of the RX-78 and Char avenges his father. The sound effect that is used (meat and metal) while Amuro grinds the sword out of his arm makes me cringe. This scene is moving since even though the Gundam is in pieces it still has one last duty to perform.
edited to add disclaimer of realism

In Bleach Ichigo vs Byakuga. When they both released their bankai it was amazing. Mostly because it was the first time to see Ichigos and I was waiting for it for so long. Also because Byakuga is one of my favorite Bleach characters and I like his bankai the best. Also, the fight was just the right length. It wasn't cut too short or dragged out for too long. I also really liked the fight with Ichigo and Kenpachi, because they both fought practically to the death, and Kenpachi was insanely strong. I think the fight just shows Ichigo's stubbornness to a whole new level, as well as what he is capable of. I think this is the first fight where we realized that there is so much more to Ichigo than what we previously thought.
And of course in Naruto, right before the fillers started the fight between Naruto with the Kyuubi chakra released and Sasuke with level 2 cursed seal was really awesome. That might have been one of my favorite fights ever. Also with Naruto and Gaara after the chuunin exams. Because it ended up being two giant monsters fighting each other. Also because it's the first time we get to see Naruto summon the Kyuubi.[/spoiler]

One Piece: Luffy vs. Crocodile round 3. It was so cool how it was synched up to Dvorak's New World Symphony.

Ipo Maconochi vs. Akira Sendoh. This two boxer anime are very hard and tough. They can't hardly fall to each other but Ipo Maconochi can do a special punch.
