Episode 7: Well first off spoiler[Mokoto tried to kill the cat
 which surprised me, you got a bit of a peak at her personality and reasoning with this episode to. Was the fox important to anything? it was pretty funny though when she had to eat the "special" jam and when she was following and periodically jumping out of view when he looked be hind him (with no prevail though since she wasn't very sneaky with is.  ] All around I thought this was a fun episode that gave some insight to Mokoto's personality.

Who would all of you say is the most normal girl in Kanon, from what you've seen of the series so far?
I'll answer my own question with process of elimination. Definitely not Nayuki; spoiler[in fact, she's probably the weirdest of the bunch. She's really, REALLY slow, and it takes more time than it should for things to register in her head. And she falls asleep when eating, and can sleep through 20 alarm clocks simultaneously sounding off at once. And of course, Nayuki-talk, "Nyuu".] Ayu spoiler[is not the most normal girl on the block either. In addition to her unappeasable appetite for taiyaki and tendencies to take them from taiyaki stands without paying, she's...kind of ignorant when it comes to modern technology. "What's a cell phone?" And the infamous Ayu catchphrase, "Uguu".] Mai, spoiler[the badass monster slicing silent girl is...eh, not normal  .]
Sayuri is somewhat normal, but her ultra-moe Kawakami Tomoko "Hello I'm Misuzu" voice tends to make me lean toward not thinking that way...plus, she always says so much to Mai only to get a response in three words or less...I expect her to say "Gaoh", but she doesn't... Makoto, spoiler[well, greeting someone by declaring revenge on them and trying to beat them up is not the most normal way to go about doing things. Plus, she's kind of obsessive about getting at Yuuichi, even though she never ever succeeds. Plus, she fell asleep in the middle of an interview in Episode 6...Makoto catchphrase: "Auu!"] Kaori is pretty normal, but she's a cold blooded woman in many ways. Shiori spoiler[I would say is the most normal of the bunch. It's kind of apparent from her numerous encounters with Yuuichi that she's lying through her teeth, but besides that, she acts pretty normally. She's pretty clever at hiding her secret, actually. I don't know if there's a Shiori catchphrase. Would "Himitsu desu" qualify?] |

I'll say this. None of the scenes are "wasted"; just keep those in mind. 
And yes, the "mysterious" jam! No one has been able to decipher the secrets that's in the jam. Hell, not even the original game players or even the original staff that first created it!

Yeah, it's especially an odd surprise if you're a first time viewer to eventually find out that some of the most insignificant seeming tidbits foreshadow very important occurences and discoveries.
There must be some secret ingredient in it that wakes Nayuki up, I'm guessing... |

The only complaint I have at the moment is that the series could move a little faster. It is still very enjoyable, and only 7 episodes in, so I guess it isnt that big of a deal at the moment.

Episode 8....this is it people! It's Makoto's story in FULL FORCE!
Here are the main points that happened: spoiler[Mishio Amano gets introduced (voiced by the awesomeness of Maaya Sakamoto), and she told Yuuichi not to get too close towards Makoto as it'll only lead to despair. She also mentioned that Makoto is not human. According to her, a miracle happened which allowed Makoto to take human shape just to meet him. In order for this to happen, she had to sacrifice her memory and her life. Which means, later on Makoto will....... Also note the fact how more clumsy Makoto has become. And not to mention, Yuuichi is starting to remember where Makoto's name really came from. And he was chatting with a fox when he was a kid.] Hehehe, they're not going to hold back. That I can tell you much.

Episode 8: spoiler[So I now see what you meant by the fox on the hill scene not being wasted...now I think I have a grasp on where things will end up going. So my next question that this episodes brought up is who Mishio Amano is? She's not a fox is she? Anyways I suppose thats why Makoto can be described as being as sly as a fox...eh
 ] A great episode for me since who Makoto really was, was bothering me.

Since Toei's version didn't really address Mishio's involvement as much as KyoAni's, I can't really say why she acts the way she is. I mostly assumed that spoiler[she's very bitter since she experienced a similar incident Yuuichi did and doesn't want him to suffer the same fate as her.]

I like it how when i watch this anime it is almost as if i am playing a high end renai game. Slow pace, the music, kawai~ness ( a bit too much )... its all there. really relaxing and entertaining to watch.
episode eight: i don't think the story of where spoiler[makoto got her name was in the old kanon. Oh, and now i know where exactly prio from megatokyo got his name . from pirashki, lol.] |

I just watch Eps. 1-7 of Kanon, but before I give my own opinion about the show, I would like to clarify some misleading fact in the trivia before it goes out of hand ; and it goes a little something like this...
------------------------------------------------------------ 【声】「＊Ｂ君っ！」= Yuuichi-kun! 廊下に戻ると、不意に背中に声がかかる。= Someone called me from behind when I was about to go back at the corridor. 【＊Ａ】「振り返ると、美坂香里が立っていた」= As I turn around, Misaka Kaori was standing there. 【香里】「なに状況説明してるのよ？」= What are you narrating about? (Kyon-kun narrates a lot...) 【＊Ａ】「いや、別に」= Nope, nothing at all. next one is...... ------------------------------------------------------------ 【香里】「ここが昇降口」= This is the entrance. 【＊Ａ】「それぐらい知ってるって」= I know that much. 【香里】「知ってる割には思いっきり校舎裏で途方に暮れてたじゃない」= Yet you still end up at the opposite side of the school, right? 【＊Ａ】「ぐは…見てたのか…」= Geh... You were watching me...? 【香里】「不審な行動を取ってるから、てっきりどこかの秘密機関から密命を帯びてここに潜入したんじゃないかって思ったわよ」 I thought you were acting strange, as if you were sent by a certain secret organization to infiltrate this place and observe our mysterious lives. 【＊Ａ】「俺は普通の転校生だ」= I'm just an ordinary transfer student. 【香里】「ちょっとがっかり」= I'm a little disappointed. 香里 = Kaori ＊Ａ = Yuuichi 声 = Voice 状況説明 = jyoukyou-setsumei = (circumstances, situation)-(explanation, exposition) = go figure that out yourselves ^^; 秘密機関 = himitsukikan = lit. secret organization (where Itsuki belongs and also, he got transferred in order to observe Haruhi.) 転校生 = tenkousei = transfer student = Itsuki These lines is thought to be a reference to Suzumiya Haruhi No Yuuutsu but truth be told... it is not a reference to SHnY... these lines actually exist in the Kanon game, Day 08 to be exact. You'll stumble upon these if you decline Nayuki's offer to tour you around the school. I must say... it's a complete coincidence! ^^; Now, for my own opinion... I must say... 4 thumbs up! Feet included! KyoAni really did it this time! It thought that the reunion of Yuuichi and Nayuki was a little rushed but when I watch it again, it felt a little normal. The win part here is the unexpected fan service of Nayuki! Kidding! Anyway, the feel of the show definitely differs from the first Kanon series, and using the original BGM really kicks it high to the Air. And if that's not enough, they've added some flavors to it too, like the dog and the cat in the Taiyaki stall and I get to see an unsuspected victim of Akiko's jam... spoiler[Poor Makoto...], how Yuuichi makes fun of Ayu's weakness against scary thing, etc. etc. Actually, I was hoping for a true to game adaptation of Kanon but I didn't expected they'd make it even BETTER than I expected! Using the original BGM was already a win for me, then they added up some spices so it would be a win for everyone. If this continues, Kanon 2002 will be kick out and replaced by Kanon 2006 and it will charge towards #2 spot in my favorite anime (2 KEY Titles will be reighning from the top list and that would probably go 3 if CLANNAD appears since I really really like CLANNAD). So, I'm wondering whose story they'll tackle next, out of Shiori, Mai, and Ayu. I'm guessing Mai, since Yuuichi's been talking to her quite a bit and trying to figure out what's going on with the demons and everything. That should be a visual treat for us. |

I insisted to my friend who is following this series (but hasn't been exposed to Kanon otherwise) that spoiler[every "Auu!" is an Aha! moment]. He has a hard time seeing how, but it won't be long...
Yeah, it'll probably be Mai. IIRC, spoiler[ Shiori's story occured quite late, and Ayu's story was dead last. Although, their story progressed slowly but gradually during others' arcs. And we haven't seen the actual ghost in Mai's arc yet, and I'm guessing we should see it soon.] |

After watching episode 8 & seeing how certain scenes from earlier eps foreshadowed the things that I learned, I'm officially hooked, as well as my rating for it being upped to an Excellent from a Very Good.
& is it just me, or does anybody else miss the scheming, vengeful Makoto?

Haven't watched Episode 8, but I've been hearing everwhere about how amazing it is. It also polled very high over at Asuki with an overwhelming 10/10, so hopefully I can get around to watching it soon.
I hope Episode 8's greatness is due to KyoAni's greatness and not all because of the plot twist (I already know what happens, unfortunately...). |
