greetings.. im new here btw. ;]

Blue gender and nadesico are really nice imo. I tried to watch full metal panic but i stoped watching it after 10 episodes. Its not enough mecha action in it & thats disapointing because FMP is super nicely animated.. It should have been alot more mecha in it. :/
I've also seen escaflowne the movie, that one was nice.

I'd like to have everyones opinnion on what the best mecha anime is. Im kinda new to mecha anime, but I've seen some of it & I like it.

Based on the few episodes I've seen, as well as praise of it from some friends of mine who managed to see the whole thing, my vote goes to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

is the best of the mech genre.

The animation is older, but good for its time, and gets the job done. The music, IMO, is good, some of it J-Pop, and some of it truly more soulful. The characters grow, and are, for the most part, adults who act like it. The "bad guys" are multi dimensional and interesting. The show is really a great deal about two cultures meeting, and thus people on both sides of the battle are made to seem reasonable, as well as the fanatics.

However, if you are looking for straight up battle sequences, this is probably not the best of them all for that. More character based, in general.

For character development, romance, plot, and music, I'd vote Macross.

My second vote would go to Escaflowne.

For straight fight scenes and animation, I'd say the Macross Plus OVA. Also has really excellent Yoko Kanno music.

Steve

The first mecha Anime i watched was Gundam Wing and i've never seen any others except for other Gundam series so in my opinion it is Gundam Wing though i hate that Peacecraft girl.

Evangelion by far.

The characters, especially at the end, were so interesting. That series has left the biggest emotional impact on me of any series I've yet to see.

Mobile Suit Gundam is one example of mecha anime that ALL anime fans should take the time to watch. It's the standard by which all mecha anime (including Hideki Anno's angst fest, Evangelion) are judged.

Also, if you'd like something newer, you should look into Rahxephon. It's truly excellent.

Evangelion is the most important Mecha series of the nineties. It has it's flaws, but did a lot to refine the genre and introduce new elements and a better understanding of humanity.
Macross is the eighties mecha. My love for Macross is great, such that I got that box set, despite the extreme pricing.
Finally, Getta Robo is the series of the seventies. It is the core of Sentai shows and has a huge influence on many latter shows by introducing the teaming mecha. For good or ill, combining mecha owe it to getta robo.
The original gundam and nadesico also deserve nods for what they did.

To be honest, I found Gundam Wing to be one of the weakest of the Gundam series. Too many obnoxious characters and extremely underwhelming mech designs (seriously, aside from the Gundams and Tallgeese, the mecha were outright pathetic). Plus the show just dragged at points. The beginning was great, the ending was great, but there were about 20 episodes in the middle where absolutely nothing of remote importance happened. If the show were slimmed down to 26 episodes, it would have been much, much better (look at Endless Waltz; it was short, the plot got direct to the point and flowed along very nicely, and as a result it was several times better than the TV series).

But then, I also love Big O, so...yeah...polar opposite opinion...

My favorite mech animes are Martian Successor Nadesico and FMP! Because in my oppinion they had really nicely done fight scenes, but then there was just as much stuff that made me laugh out loud.

Macross reigns supreme as far as mecha anime goes. It wasn't the first, but I think it has probably had the largest impact.

Also had one of the coolest mecha designs, as well...

Otherwise, I'd have to give Evangelion and Escaflowne a nod....

I believe RahXephon is the best mecha anime out there. I love the character development, as well as the carefully crafted story.
