Ayanami is souless (both literally and metaphorically), Shinji is too whiney and Gendou is too hairy, therefor I like Asuka. Yes, she has a major attitude problem, but all of the characters deserved an A-bomb anyway.

I already stated Asuka was my fav for main. Tojima is my fav for secondary characters. But there is only one in the whole EVA universe who can except he best charcter award, only one who has shown TRUE character, only one who shows TRUE bravery and skill, only one who is a true inspiration to life. Pen-pen.

Gendo is the hero of Evangelion. He stopped Seele from doing what they did in End of Eva in the original series. Gendo is the ultimate tragic hero, with his life dedicated to stopping Seele for Yuri. He is reprehensible, immoral and a downright bastard. Still, he was the only one able to do anything at all to stop Seele, and he did it for a very noble thing. Love. Gendo loved Yuri so much he would even damn the world if he could save her. That is powerful stuff.

Asuka Langley Soryu. Yes she has an atitude problem but I can understand her and could deal with her.
And she is the greatest EVA pilot that ever lived. And in my humble opinion one of the greatest mecha pilots in the history of anime.( I consider Eva's in the same category as mecha.)

Alright, for whatever reson my browser doesn't do the quote thigs right nor the spoiler tags so I'll do my best to compensate.
King_Micah- I may be wrong, but if you watch EOE, doesn't Gendou fail in the aspect of stopping them? Not to mention that the one who could really do anything, in the end, was the whiny brat (I hate Shinji; I hate angst; therefore, I hate Shinji's angst thus hating Shinji even more) .
Sorry for the...complete miss on Touji's name. It has really been a long time since I last watched anything to do with EVA (And I plan on keeping it that way).

Understandable. I haven't seen Evangelion OR Trigun in a good long while (or at least not actually sat down and watched Trigun, I've left Adult Swim on as background noise for many a night...), because I've seen them both so much I'm a little burned out on them (which is kind of unfortunate, because a lot of my friends are still really high on them ).

Tell me about it.
**FLASHBACK**
The first time I saw Eva I had bought a set of pirated DVD's off ebay (didn't know that they where and was too new to really care), and I instantly fell in love. I wasn't a fanatic or anything, but I did go to school the next day with a big smile on my face and spouting off about Pen-pen. Wasn't until my friend got into it that I began to slightly detest it. not because HE liked it, but because that was ALL he liked. It was an obssession. I didn't even know the show had religous foundation until he told me (that was a sad day). He didn't kill my feelings towards the show, just my enjoyment. However, he leant me EOE and I watched it 6 times over a weekend. That is kind of sad. But anyway. All that EVA in a short time really burned me out. Fortunatly my friend Amber has a huge collection of all the not-quite-mainstream anime that can help weigh it out like Fushigi Yugi, Weiz Kreuz etc.etc.

Joke's on him. Several of the staff members at GAiNAX that worked on the show have gone on record as saying they just threw in religious symbolism because "it looked cool," and not because there were any overbearing Judeo-Christian concepts at work.
It's sorta like how we in the Western Hemisphere tend to just throw random Kanji and Buddhist/Shinto symbols on things and call it "the secrets of the Far East Orient." Only, of course, the roles were reversed.
