Oh yeah, nothing engages a rioting mob with torches like a good screening of Cool Devices Razz (although the thing isnt so bad Razz Razz)

but seriously (somethign new for me Smile) there are 2 messeges here that I totally agree upon:

Quote:
Grave of the Fireflies is the first thing I show to people who believe anime is all porn....

Right. Now this movie is ART. And altough some people may not like it they just cand deny that this thing is a masterpiece of its kind. A top shelf position.

Quote:
Really though, if you want to impress them with anime, you have to know what THEY like to watch and then find an anime series that similar to it......like say if they like watching The Simpsons, then maybe something of a comedic nature would suffice.....I would definitely stay away from the CONTROVERSIAL stuff though (y'know what I'm talkin' about) since it might turn them off......and maybe not the experimental stuff for first timers (lain, anyone) unless they're into that....

Now this is probably the best advice here. You must knwo the tastes and likes of the people you try to convicne to anime. For example, I hooked a friend who was an amateur musian into watchign Trigun - he really liked the guitar in the intro of the series. Then I showed him Cowboy Bebop (because he was studying in a jazz-profile university) and so on...... I was aiming at an aniem with good music (the kind that he liked). If a person is into cars - Initial D, if he is a goth of some kind - Hellsing, Vampire hunter, if they are computer freaks (really freaks Razz) then lain Razz
I strongly believe that there is an anime for everyone.

Here's an easy one. I think pretty much any sci-fi would work here. Gundam, Nadesico, ect.

Well... that would probably be psyche/horror anime, like Boogipop Phantam.

Just present your self as you normally do. Don't try to act like someone else, becuase well you know.

If you want to defend Anime, you can first go to your activities director and ask if you could start a club. This may take time, but if you milk it it will grow. Wink Of course you would need members, print out ads of the club. And tell them on that ad that this club is for Asian media appreciation. And for what I know, most of the Asian media comes from Japan that we have here in the US.

But instead of calling it directly the Anime club, call it the club of understanding Asian media and entertainment. Which you could branch it off to anything other than Anime in that club. It could be shown that videogame fans are most likely also anime fans, or to be anime fans.

If you can get a book and evaluate it, it is called "Anime from Akira to Princess Mononoke" which offers a grand view on Anime.

But to show what you have to offer as well, you can begin to show them shows like Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, El Hazard, etc. to show them that Anime is not senseless dribble and that it does provide a great amount of information and entertainment.

I thought of two, Grander Musashi and Grander Musashi RV. It's about a boy and he love of fishing or fishing battling, need the less, it's aimed at getting kids hocked on fishing or fishing battles. Confused So far, the only English translation aired on AXN-Asia, but since your in High School, your varmint hunting classmates might want to cause you pain after watching it.

last night I was sitting in the lab at the business school (where I work in the evenings) and I was reading the kenshin manga. I guy comes up having trouble with a program and I help him and he notices the back cover image of kenshin on the manga. I wasn't expecting from his apprearance that he'd know about it, but he really liked it. he had the ovas, shadow of the wolf and reflections. he referred to some of the characters like shishio as the "mummy dude" but hey this is good. it means people can enjoy it without really caring whether its animated or not.

to quote him he said "it would be cool if american companies could start making movies like this"

it made my day.

so yeah whether or not people like it doesn't matter.

I always thought Blue Gender was a lot like Starship Troopers, except, you know, less terribly bad.

I have never heard of a hunting anime before.

Starship Troopers as in the CG cartoon? I would have to say Blue Gender would be your best bet. Gasaraki might also work, but only if they have a rudimentary apprecitaion of Japanese culture allready, just not anime. Zone of the Enders is also a very good Sci-fi series.

If by the movie "Final Destination" you mean supense, then the best example of a suspenseful anime I can think of is Perfect Blue. Jin-roh is sort of an action/drama movie that also might appeal. Silent Service is drama piece about a Japanese Submarine that might appeal to those who are in to political movies.

Hey, kids today like two things: Mindless Violence and Sex. Probably the only things that will keep any hyper adolescent hooked onto anime.

And if you combine them, you have a formula for success! Laughing Embrace the weirdness. Anime isn't a full-on mainstream, per sé, so most are unknowing. But if you show signs of floundering sadly in Freakville, it will only invite more ridicule. If you stand proud and tall in the face of your peers, people you WANT around you will admire your determination. When someone asks, "Are you one of those anime freaks?" you say, "Yes! And you should be too!"

You should try Animatrix!! It's something that they would feel comfortable with because of the Matrix movies.

If the people are History freaks, you can give them history-based anime.
ex. Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai Deeper Kyo, and Grave of the Fireflies.

When studying Japanese history I must have missed the section entitled 'Half-Yokai wanders countryside with Girl from Future.' Too bad, it would have been an interesting read. Sad
