I was also hoping to watch Garo (which Funimation still hasn't posted for some reason) or maybe Seven Deadly Sins but that didn't happen. Here's a question: Do people not actually fansub anymore? Is that like...just not a thing? Obviously there are groups that rip off and distribute legit streams but has actually making your own translations fallen by the wayside? I'm not asking for links here, nor am I complaining. I'm just kinda curious. I can't really find anything. Is that where we're at?

It happens. Most of the good non-simulcasted shows I can recall get fansubbed. Hyouka's one. Joshiraku's another. Most groups that aren't working on old, untranslated shows use legal scripts as a source, simply because it's easier, more efficient and usually good enough, unless they suck (they=group or script? either works). The main good fansub group for Kill la Kill would do their own translations if Crunchyroll was late, and there was even another group no one seemed to care about doing entirely original translations. (I say no one; main guy Dark_sage at fansub review site Crymore endorsed it as the best version of the show, but I don't think this was one of the times he was right about something.) It still happens, but it's a smaller enterprise and more fills in gaps.

I just watched Garo and Nanatsu no Taizai without subtitles instead, although I did struggle a bit with Garo.

Amagi Brilliant Park's just had its first episode fansubbed.

... speaking of which, I'm halfway through and not sure I'll make it. I can't remember the last time I saw a story so aggressively uninteresting or a pair of characters so irritating, but I recall very clearly the last time I saw humour this lousy: Kara no Kyoukai. Except this is less wacky and more just... dull.

Don't know what you're talking about. I went to my every-week run-of-the-mill sub/rip video agreggator site from hell and found both series fansubbed. Granted, the sub for Deadly Sins is kind of terrible, don't know if there's any better out there.

Wolf Girl and Black Prince - Don't know if I should laugh at Erika in the sense of spoiler["you lied and deserve punishment"] or feel sorry for her spoiler[due to what Kyouya will get her to do]

Well, maybe that's something for future Ali to worry about. For now, I'll laugh. Though, I'm unsure what is in store come future episodes. Think that there is a fine line that this show is treading on right now, but I'll check out some more episodes to see how they play it.

Seven Deadly Sins - Right off the bat, I wasn't expecting to spoiler[see a talking pig!] Laughing

That a spoiler? Well, anyway, Hawk left the biggest impression on my. Enjoyed the character in this episode.

I'm looking forward to finding out why Meliodas spoiler[apparently looks the same as he did in the past.] I can only guess and say that it's probably tied to his powers. But, since I know next to nothing about this series, I do wonder how it's actually connected.

Though, those boob grabs did bother me. No point in them at all…guess they were trying to play them off for laughs. Fell totally flat for me, as Elizabeth didn't even react to them. It just…happened, and forgotten just as quickly.

Oh, and that mode of transportation…how inconspicuous of them. Laughing

Sora no Method - Found it interesting that no one seems to question the spoiler[saucer in the sky] during this episode. Not even Nonoka, who has spoiler[recently moved back to town. Though, it seems like she doesn't remember living there.] Which, to me, makes the lack of questioning even stranger.

On Noel, it seems like spoiler[no one else can see her]. Or, at least, spoiler[no one else knows she exists. It seems like Noel spent a lot of time alone waiting for Nonoka's return. So, it's either that the friends didn't know about the existence/can't see the girl who lives in the observatory or they abandoned her when Nonoka left.] I'd say they don't know.

It was also interesting to see that only one of the two characters that are spoiler[friends from the past remembered who Nonoka was.]

Some mysteries that interest me in this one.

In Search of the Lost Future - Can't put my finger on it, but there is something about the animation that seems off at times.

I wasn't expecting the MC to be obsessed with spoiler[astronomy]. At least Sou has that love added to the usual bland/self-insert MC mix. Hope some more personality is added to the character.

And, seems like we're getting a spoiler[harem] in this one. Though, as things stand, it's a spoiler[love triangle.] Laughing

So, it seems like spoiler[time travel] may be involved in this one. Love me some spoiler[time travel!]

World Trigger - Had decided that I'd actually use the anime for what, seemingly, we're meant to…as an ad for the manga. Well, I don't think I'm any closer to checking out the manga after watching this first episode.

Straight off the bat, I find the introduction to what the world is facing to be strange. Not sure if it is just one of those things we're meant to accept in order to allow things to progress, but how could spoiler[Border investigate the Neighbor technology when no weapons worked against them in the first place? Or are we to assume that they somehow knew about the Neighbors before they ever made their way to Earth/got help from the other side…and back then had somehow come up with a way to defeat them, while keeping that to themselves?]

Either way, something is fishy there. Of course, as I mentioned earlier, I don't know if it is something that we're just meant to accept or if they will actually be explaining how it all came to be. Will check out a couple more episodes before deciding if I'll want to check out more.

Oh boy this season is going to be the death of me. In a good way!

Even a lot of the shows the review panel of ANN disliked, I still thought were fun enough to follow and I'm interested in how they will all go forward.

This is seriously one damn potent anime season for sure. It has basically anything and everything for all types of anime fans.

This is kind of an anime overload for me, even though I usually watch most shows that come out each season.

Now I know to ignore any criticism you have of a show not being funny. You clearly don't know from funny.

eta: just watched the first eppie of Amagi Brilliant Park and really liked it. It's classic KyoAni and for me that's a good thing. I'd say the humour is more of the chuckle sort as opposed to LOL (although I did that on a couple of occasions, too) but I'm interested in the world and the story. Pretty damn good fansub, too. I'd still prefer a legit stream but I can live with this if I have to.

I really like Fate/Stay Unlimited Blade Works, although I'm a little surprised at the across the board praise. It was good, don't get me wrong, but for some reason I didn't get as sucked in as the reviewers.

I think my problem with it is that I was so utterly impressed by Zero. Zero felt mature because it had adult characters. Everything felt more impactful, masters came from all over the world...With this version, the stakes feel lower so far, and its limited to just one character, who is a well-developed character and powerful, but clearly a child. She's a far cry from Kiritsugu or Kayneth.

I do hope it stays focused on Rin, though. I'm tired of teenage characters, but I like Rin. I really dislike Shirou. Of course, I'm not familiar with the Unlimited Blade Works route, so maybe he gets better. I have some reservations, even after that good first episode, but I'm excited to watch more.

Unless Crunchyroll gets later simulcast rights to Amagi Brilliant Park, I'll have to resort to the bad way.

Seeing talk about F/SN:UBW's first episode makes me want to just jump into that series. Unfortunately, I can't force myself to do it. Yes, I'm an idiot that way. I do have a compulsive 'need' to watch prequels before seeing the newer material...so I have to, at least, watch F/Z. Though, there is a part of me that wants to see the original F/SN adaption before jumping in UBW! Laughing

You don't watch Zero before stay night. It's like reading hollow ataraxia before stay night.

EVERYTHING starts with Fate/stay night, just watch this remake and nothing more, later watch Zero if you want.

Tenchi's out. I can't see this really developing into anything meaningful if it's only going to be in 4 minute chunks.

Because I'm in college I'm watching next to nothing, but I've checked out a few things so far.

Orenchi no Furo Jijo: I can tell this one will be my favorite of the season. I already read the manga for some of it and I enjoyed the humor and the cast. It's a guilty pleasure type show, but hey, it's fun and inoffensive enough for me.

Cross Ange: I'm willing to let this thing have a chance. The opening half of the episode was interesting, and a lot could come from it. The second half of that episode though was horrible and trashy and I really considered just leaving it then and there, but I will let it try to redeem itself. I'll see what it can do.

Celestial Method: The opening episode was interesting enough for me. It was a little dramatic, but I liked how they went about setting up the premise of the show. The characters are all really adorably designed as well, so that's a plus. The animation was really well done at some points in this episode, and I just liked the overall look to it. I'm looking forward to more.

The Fruit of Grisia: Meh, really all I can say about it. I appreciate the nude shots of the main guy, but that's enough to keep me watching it. The ending of this episode makes it seem like this series is gunna try to be 'supur srs', but for the beginning 20 minutes of the episode it was just random comedy and fanservice type set ups. I mean, it wasn't bad, but it was just eh.

After reading reviews for Wolf Girl and Black Prince I don't think I'll be watching it, saves me time anyway, I will be watching YowaPeda S2 at some point, Akatsuki no Yona is worth a look at atleast. I don't have a FUNi subscription so Donten ni Warau, Madan and Psycho Pass 2 are on hold. Amagi Brilliant Park is not an option right now. Also because of all the positive reviews I may check out Trigger's new adaption even though I originally wrote it off.

Akatsuki no Yona I'll admit having the ending twist spoiled by all of the promotional material kinda killed the dramatic tension a little. It was obvious Soo-Won was gonna turn traitor and lead the insurgents but I guess going into it expecting the twist made most of the lovey-dovey stuff an exercise in tedium. Oh well now that the plot ball is rolling the show seems like it'll have enough going for it to be quite enjoyable. Hak and Yona have at least a little chemistry (even if it is steeped with snarky bickering as expected of an anime couple) and I look forward to seeing her come to terms with current events and growing into the badass archer we see in the opening. I'm looking forward to male!harem antics.

I think the only real problem so far is the reliance on "as you know" exposition and (in the manga) flashbacks. I'm hoping they will improve on this front and make things a bit more fast paced so it doesn't take 3 episodes for them to actually start their epic journey.

EDIT: Trinity Seven Meh. It's generic harem stuff. The plotting and mystery are generic. The characters are generic. The jokes get an occassional chuckle but they are pretty obvious ones. It isn't aggressively awful or sexist it's just bland. It's not horrid enough to drop but not that eye catching to excitedly follow either it's just there and helps to waste about 20 minutes. Also some of the name and character designs reminds me of Touhou. (I swear Lilith looks almost exactly like Meiling)

Yeah,
I'm waiting for the Sub.
But I can already tell the plot is pretty much fluff.
And it's not even interesting fluff.

Also,
Not too happy with the new character designs for the old characters.

I laughed when I went to check who is responsible for Screen Composition for World Trigger. Laughing Well, it's a good thing I'm not checking this out.

So far I enjoyed Fate/Stay Night, Madan no Ou to Vanadis, Gundam Re:conguista and Gugure Kokkuri San for different reasons. I'm sure there are more anime coming up that I would absolutely love.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment.

I'll probably give Akatsuki no Yona a shot. I've been pretty uninterested with modern shoujo, and there don't seem to be a lot of fantasy shoujo nowadays. I tried The World is Still Beautiful, but I just couldn't get over the love interest. Maybe an older-feeling show will be just the ticket for me. Anime hyper
