Has anyone seen the first episode of Full Metal Panic? My friends and I really enjoyed it, and I'd like to hear what other people thought.

I thought the animation was great. I think the series is being done by Gonzo of Vandread fame. The introduction to the characters was pretty good, but I don't like the direction the story seems to be heading in. Hopefully they get out of that school environment and into some action like their was in the first 5 min of the first episode. I can only hope that it doesn't turn into this "mecha with school girls" type anime.

FMP is one of my favorite series of this year. it gets into the action again at ep 5 and 6 and after that it comes and goes. In my opinion its well balanced between the school romance humor and the scifi AS fighting. Vol.5 was recently released and it was pretty dark depressing for the first 2 eps but its always countered by one ep of comedy. It will be interesting to see where the story goes now around eps 18-19.

The series tries (and geenrally succeeds) in trying to balance the school based "fishout of water" comedy with mecha action.
The second series/season seems more comedy-centric.
It was a good fansub series which I find to be more than worthy of buying in domestic release. GONZO's work keeps getting better.

It's not a bad series, escpecially if you like military-based mecha.
It does switch the story from comedy to drama/action a lot, but it keeps things intresting. There are 5 DVD's out now, so if you have not bought one yet, maybe you should wait and see if ADV releases a box set.

FMP truly "has a little something for everyone". It strikes a very good balance of a lot of different themes.
One of my friends is a quasi-anime fan. He doesn't buy anything, but he tends to watch what I have rather ravenously. Anything with a "Badass" in it (Bebop, Trigun, Hellsing, Berserk). I didn't think he'd go for FMP at all, but he ended up laughing his arse off and digging the battles, to boot. Just like I did.
Gonzo is quickly becoming one of my favorite production houses.
Syker Seven, has an M-6 from a government auction.

Its an awsome anime. A lot of funny stuff happens like hellsing said. He throws a smokebomb in school to sneak in a classroom and get extra paper.
