In the thread of the SSE licensing Yokai Girl, I said this and it REALLY came true! Lol, that's mind f**k if you ask me. Everything BETTER be left uncensored (that includes lolis like Mikan). That's what us purists want. |

That shouldn't be a problem. They say they don't censor artwork, and I'm inclined to trust them as I haven't seen contradictory evidence otherwise. And I'm sure they're aware of what kind of content the series has, so there shouldn't be any surprises along the way. http://sevenseasentertainment.tumblr.com/post/159835562625/will-to-love-tu-sequel-be-uncensored |

I'm also curious about how manga rights work, too. I'm surprised that Viz didn't publish Prophecy since it would've fit with Signature line, then again, I remember hearing somewhere that the mangaka for Prophecy actually approached Vertical first. The other Shueisha manga that comes to my mind is Gantz, which ended being published by Dark Horse. Also, didn't Kodansha Comics/USA just announced they're doing a Battle Angel Alita omnibus? (another Shueisha manga)
As someone who has no interest in TLR, I think this is actually a good idea from a business perspective. Viz can focus their resources on their target market and maybe leave the more "niche" titles to publishers that specialize. |

I'm STUNNED that they licensed Darkness, considering it's basically porn and has blatantly underage characters. This is gonna be the Nymphet/Kodomo no Jikan controversy all over again.

Wow.
Maybe I should not give up hope on Nana to Kaoru then. |

Alita's creator left Shueisha after a fallout with them,so that's probably why. |

At least, Digital Manga (Under Project-H imprint) got Kodomo no Jikan for the US release. |

The law seems to be very grey when it comes to cartoon, comic and video game characters that are under age since they are not real people. |

I'm sure they discussed it with their legal team before licensing it. So it'll be fine. Besides, TLR is already being sold in some of the most popular Japanese bookstores here in NY such as Kinokuniya...of course it's the japanese version but it's on full display for anyone to grab. They never had any legal troubles with the book being sold in their stores so rest assured it won't be another Kodomo no Jikan. Besides even with that manga they already established that it's drawings on a paper. |

Considering we have our glorious friends over at Fakku who publish actual uncensored naughty bits on full display, TLR will be fine. There will always be controversy, but that's inevitable with this sort of thing. |

I think that would be beneficial in the long run. 1. Free publicity. Two decades ago there was a campaign labeling players or pen and paper rpg games (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons) to be devil worshipers. Nowadays most do not remember or do not give a damn. At worst it didn't affect the business of selling p&p rpgs, at best it provided a boost and IMO negative press can do the same thing for manga. Now if you would excuse me I have to worship Nyaruko-chan 2. Legal challenge. I think we are at the right moment to legally challenge any legal notion that you need to protect a drawing as if it were a living, breathing human being (TBT they are labeling drawings as "children" to ban pornography). It also better for everyone when people wank to this stuff instead of taking underage students to a trip in a cabin located in the wilds of California. For the record, most people already know I have no vested interest into this affair since I my personal fetishes are as far "little girls" as you can get. |

As someone mentioned, Alita's creator left Shueisha & joined Kodansha, so the license moved from Viz to Kodansha USA. It's similar to how Viz (nor Shogakukan) can't publish Gash Bell anymore, due to how its creator left Shogakukan in a rather rough & public way. As for Dark Horse, for the longest time that company seemed to be the only non-Viz publisher that actually had a working relationship with Shueisha, which is why the company has been able to publish other Jump titles (not just Gantz), like Blood Blockade Battlefront (Jump Square) & Shadow Lady (Weekly Shonen Jump). |

Regarding Kodomo No Jikan, it wasn't released here due to a legal reason, it ultimately got cancelled because of backlash from opposition groups and the company just not wanting to deal with it.
Plus you have things like dance in the vampire bund, and I wonder if people realize even shows like Devil's Sister and maybe even some characters like Koneko in Dxd feature characters that are under 16 probably so those would be an issue as well if it was going to seriously be prosecuted. |
