Gnosia (TV) Source: Video Game (developed by Petit Depotto, published by Playism) Demographic: Animation Studio: Domerica Genres: drama, mystery, psychological, science fiction, thriller Themes: aliens, amnesia, detective, fan service, space, survival game, technology Plot Summary: The Gnosia lie. Pretending to be human, they'll get in close, trick and deceive, and then eradicate each person in the vicinity from the universe, one victim at a time. The crew of a drifting spaceship, facing off against a mysterious and deadly threat known as the "Gnosia" and having no idea who among them is really the enemy, formulate a desperate plan for survival. The most suspicious among them will be put into "cold sleep" one by one, in an effort to completely rid the ship of Gnosia. However, it is almost impossible to tell whether each person put into cold sleep was really Gnosia – or simply a poor, unfortunate scapegoat, sacrificed by the Gnosia for their own survival. Air Date & Platform: October 11, 2025 (Saturday) Available on: Crunchyroll Episode Count / Runtime: Pending [EDIT: Fancy opener stuff edited. -TK] |

I couldn't tell from the trailer if the animation was going to be CGI hinky or kind of cool and distinct, and the source material is a video game which is rarely an indication for breezy confidence...but all that said, this is one of the one's I'm keeping an eye out for.

Agreed. I'm a sucker for "Drifting Spaceship" stories, especially if the premise is that there is a deadly alien onboard that can look human. Very "The Thing."

Was updating the opener, then looked at the cast. Holy crap, what a lineup. Even if all these characters get very little screen time, it'll be well-worth what few lines they might get. The animation is done by the same studio that did Fermat's Kitchen this past summer, which looked okay enough. Lookin' forward to this potentially tantalizing whodunnit.

So far seems like a very good adaptation, really enjoyed the first episode.
spoiler[The added detail about cold sleep being dangerous to wake up from is a bit of an odd adaptation change, given there are times we see that happen no problem in the game, but I guess it was just put in there to explain why they don't just wake people back up when they're confirmed safe.] |

I stayed interested and still am, but I have some basic logic questions.
Like, the AI can blow up the ship, but it's impossible to lock them in their rooms during warp drive with an automated sliding door? Why couldn't they just stay together during warp drive so that three would outnumber the Gnosia no matter what? Why could the Gnosia only kill one of them during warp drive if it was impossible for the computer to monitor them? Did I miss the part where they explained why they couldn't just bring the people out of cold sleep again? Hmmn, the Gnosia presence is still detected. Thaw em' out. Can't two of them arrange with the AI to pretend to put someone in cold sleep and then see if one of the last two people get all Gnosia like? I'm kind of wondering if it isn't the AI that was infected by an alien virus. |

The answer to most if not all of your question is going to be game logic (since it is based on a game). Yes, thinking about it logically a Gnosia should be able to kill all the humans during a warp drive, especially since nobody is armed. Thawing out wise it was said that the tech is risky/banned but you would think that being frozen as short as possible would be the safer option. The same goes for the rest, the game works because it was constructed with a set of rules, bending them makes the whole premise fall apart.
Anyway, I liked the first episode. Given the ending a lot more characters are joining the party and I am sure that it will make for many exciting sessions. |

Hmm, were those two non-binary/trans characters? Setsu made a specific comment against being called a girl, not saying they were a man. And pretty much everything with Racio, up into what sounded like complaining about the cis as illogical. A little searching says it was the case, but also just as much the usual reaction of people saying translators made it up. I did find myself questioning why they couldn't just unfreeze people once they have confirmed they were not the monster. I guess it is less overly edgy than throwing them out the airlock, but also kind of important to the whole premise that they couldn't cut down half the suspects by freezing half from the start, and just unfreeze people as needed. I was kind of also expecting a twist of finding out that the first episode was the AI teaching him the concept, since they mentioned it earlier that such a program existed to automate learning or something existed but was not working, and we would find out that this was actually that. But I guess cosmic resurrection powers can work too. I suppose that the Gnosia this time around won't necessarily be the same person. So it is like a quantum sort of thing where this reality would be identical to all known/observed aspects at some point of time, with the identity of the Gnosia being an unknown variable. Maybe the number could change too, since I think the Werewolf game usually has two werewolves, with the idea they can work together to cast blame. |

Continuing to really enjoy this as an adaptation, capturing the feeling super well and loving how much personality is being put into how each character is being animated.
spoiler[Definitely making some interesting changes to the source material in having Yuri tell the others about the looping upfront and having Setsu not immediately be a confidant about it. Curious where that's going.] |

Episode 2
Yes, I have the same sorts of logic questions that Edjwald has, but clearly I'm just going to have to let them go, which is fine. Enjoying this. I like how there will be characters we haven't met yet next episode and looking forward to how Yuri is going to deal with the reality that a different timeline means they have no idea who the Gnosia is. |

Episode 3
He actually managed to win one, taking out two Gnosia on after the other, I guess after after failing multiple times already. But it seems to have not mattered as he restarted anyway. Presumably the game is getting more complex each time, with extra people and roles, more of how the werewolf game works. Seems a little unfortunate that despite knowing that there are two onboard they cannot do two rounds of voting a day. Presumably revealing Engineer would make someone the most likely target to kill in the warp, especially if there are two gnosia. The introduction of more roles does remind me of a very funny clip I saw where everyone was secretly given the same neutral role, that there was supposed to be one of, and they were all losing their minds trying to claim that it was them after thinking that they had caught someone out on lying. |

Episode 4
An interesting reveal that Setsu is looping also along with Yuri and followed up with an interesting twist that this can happen at the same time as Setsu being a Gnosia. It has me wondering if Yuri can be a Gnosia in any of the loops. Also, I think that I called Yuri a "he" earlier, but then I had a thought whether we have heard their gender, since it looks like a good amount of gender neutral subtitles are used alongside their androgynous appearance. So, Yuri, Setsu and Racio might all be non-binary? |

That seems to be the case. For those who did not play the game, you can choose male, female, or nonbinary for your character (each one has a character who will treat them better, in the case for NB players, it's actually Raqio/Racio) It was nice to see Yuriko finally introduced! It's a bit different when you're playing the game because, as a player, if she is not on your side, you want her gone asap. But since Yuri is a character unto themselves, they might not feel how I did as a player about her. From the game perspective, spoiler[ if Yuriko is human, the Gnosia tended to kill her pretty quick. I think her and Remnan probably get killed the fastest most of the time. If she's Gnosia, she usually survives until the end.] Speaking of game perspective, I like that it shows you the roles at the end of each loop, and it seems to have ripped the voting sound effects right from the game.spoiler[ (Not sure if anyone else noticed Yuriko was Engineer, but did not claim the role)] |

I am kind of scared of how Racio would be treating a binary Yuri if this has been Racio at their nicest. At the same time I am not saying I dislike the character, they kind of make me think of Double Trouble, which is to say that I might have a preference of arrogant and dramatic enbies. |

I played as binary male (Stella treats you better, and for female, Sha Ming treats you better), I think Raqio was only slightly worse to you (Sha Ming was a bit more noticeably hostile), but I don't think it changed gameplay too much, maybe they cooperated a bit more with you? The wiki says that it affects the Guardian Angel role (said character is more likely to protect you, assuming Raqio doesn't get put into cold sleep first)
There's also a few gender specific cutscenes. Also in the game, you can pick a zodiac symbol which also affects how much some characters like you (or dislike you), which I'm assuming the anime is just going to skip over entirely because it hardly matters (and there's a ton of options) |
