This one along with Campfire Cooking are pretty high on my hype list for the upcoming season. There is something about calmly enjoying the post apocalypse that can really work well. I still think of that one episode of Apocalypse Hotel with Yachiyo just wandering around sometimes.

Can't help but think of Girls Last Tour which I quite enjoyed, but that show had the gals travelling through a fairly stylized post-apocalyptic Japan, whereas this one looks more naturalistic. Definitely checking it out.

My big irrational issue is going to be that while watching the trailer, I kept making unfavorable comparisons to Girl's Last Tour, a show I loved.

Yep, Girls' Last Tour this is not. At first I thought it was going to be a post-apocalyptic SoL show... until the encounter with the automated tank. Anyway, it may not be GLT but it's got its own little thing going on. I shall watch more. |

I totally enjoyed the first episode. One thing for sure, I certainly wasn't expecting one of the girls to be what I'm assuming is a cyborg!
The first episode actually felt quite nostalgic for me with them visiting Hakone, one of my favorite places to take a day trip from Tokyo to. I was also quite surprised to see them passing the remains of the ship, Queen Ashinoko which I rode on my last visit to Hakone back in 2019! I also hope that we get to see some world building as far as what the actual apocalyptic events were that lead up to Japan's current condition. I was most intrigued by what we saw when the two girls were looking up at the sky while in the hot spring. |

I expected the show to be about touring given the premise and it does that well. The animation/art is colorful and makes the post apocalypse seem fun to explore (if there is enough food that is). The characters have solid chemistry and thus them messing about is amusing. I did not expect a mystery story and getting so many hints about it in just the first episode. The tank AI mentioning radiation, all the craters everywhere, the sky being filled with satellites, there being a bunker/shelter and that is not mentioning one of the girls being a cyborg or android. There being action at all was a big surprise.
I am very in even though it is a bit different than what I assumed it to be. |

Yah, this anime is a bit of a strange beast. The world being shown doesn't look like a nuclear winter world - it looks like Eden in a way. It seems to glow with life rather than radioactivity, and the music and attitude of the leads is mostly uplifting and life sliced. Slice lifed? It was very well produced in any case, and kind of fun and interesting.

Until they started charging the bike with the solar panel, I totally forgot I once read I think the first volume of the manga. Not sure if thats a good or bad sign...
Looks nice, could do with less flashbacks but my standards aren't high for a cosy apocalypse. Of the two post-apocalypse shows this season, this one seems the obvious pick. |

Can't abide comparisons between Touring After and Girl's Last Tour because they are different in about every way as is evident even in the promo artwork. First, the tone and treatment of GLT is deliberately somber where this is decidedly upbeat. Second, the characters/characterizations are totally different. Third, there is no clear message. Fourth, no stakes because there is food to be found one way or another. There are also hints of SciFi elements and that this is set quite far in the future. In the sky we see either a fleet of space ships or satellites and one in particular is shown "going into warp". Mt Fuji either got nuked (why?) or it erupted with more violence than it has historically. Airi is a cyborg and Yoko mentions they "made it out of the shelter", so possibly "cryo-sleep"? There was a "nessie" in the lake at 5:15.
However, I did find the hints intriguing and the characters believable, natural and charming. This is it's own story and far removed from GLT. Definitely a keeper... |

With all the flashbacks (which I assume are only in the adaptation, I don't recall them showing up in the manga), I'm more wondering how many chapters they'll be adapting for the show. |

The second episode reminded me of Apocalypse Hotel. The girls spent most of the episode exploring Yokohama and there were cheerful/silly moments and a certain charm to the sunken and overgrown landscape. On the other hand was Ichirou and while there have been environmental tells his story makes clear that the apocalypse was no jolly time. He was in less than a full episode but he was used very effectively (that ending hit surprisingly hard).
There were also more hints about the setting including giant animals due to the radiation, the world having the technology to build cyborgs/androids and the girls having been taught in a bunker. A big question I have is about the timeline. Seeing how post apocalypse Japan looks it must have been a long time since (likely) WWIII which makes me question if Youko is organic or not. |

Ep2-When "Schwar-chan" announced he would stay behind, I thought and dreaded he would do just what he did...I'm really enjoying the well-written and economic story-telling and appreciate that by means of direction and pacing, the audience is being brought along on the trip with the girls and the reveals gradually introduce us to more of the world as the girls encounter them as well.
However, what we know so far points to Yoko being organic and human (robot wouldn't need to be in a bunker with a "robot" companion) but the timing is curious. Was she in cryo-sleep and set to be revived when radiation levels got low enough? Makes me think of Fallout...Also, the ED and Schwar-chan's memory indicate a space-based laser attack but if so, there shouldn't be radiation. |

Spoilers, since I did read the Manga ahead of time to compare and contrast spoiler[Yoko's indeed human, Airi's a cyborg.] But after watching this episode, I'm wondering if they're going to do the "One chapter at a time" approach Dark Gathering's adaptation liked to do early on. Considering how long the chapters themselves are. Though it does raise a few more questions, the setting is still very mysterious, and I'm still not 100% certain if the rider we saw at the beginning of the first episode is supposed to represent someone important, or if they're just there to provide a symbolic counterpoint to Yoko and Airi's journey. Because I don't recall them in the manga. |

3:
The third episode was a bit different than the previous two in that no story crumbs were given and there being no danger/threat (for now). It is my favorite episode due to a mix of lovely slice of life fun in the new world while still being made clear of the painful past. It included a few surprises such as penguins, Crossing Field being played (another human out there?) and driving on some train tracks. |
