If the hope is to win the publicly battle, they’re doing it wrong.

It was only due to this article that growing up I've heard of hostile takeovers, but never took the time to learn what would even be considered one. Lol

And of course Paramount is being helped by Jared Kushner. https://www.axios.com/2025/12/08/jared-kushner-paramount-warner-bros-netflix

For someone who works for the US government he sure puts a lot more effort when it comes to foreign handler- I mean interests. .

What's funny is Netflix's offer leaves out the TV channels, so the Ellisons' bid is actually undervaluing WB

Same. I guess we're never too old to learn something new.

A common response to a hostile bid for your business, is to place a “poison pill” in your company’s charter. Let’s see if WB does this or not.

Ok, I am dying to know now - what would a 'poison pill' be in this context (I have no problem imagining the likely intent)?

Zero confidence, given who is currently helming WB and will most likely benefit from the sale. Said CEO's underlings are just going to give the rubber stamp of approval and move with them to 'strip mine' another company.

Not just Jared Kushner but Paramount is also using funding from Saudi Arabia to try and buy WBD.

Good thing Paramount has already established they don’t care about good publicity with the way they’ve been screwing with CBS.

Doubt this will have any effect. There is likely more money to be made by selling off Discovery separately and then selling WB to Netflix.

I think this news story is omitting a related but very relevant part: the law getting involved. And not the "they need to stop this because it is going to lead to a monopoly" kind of involvement, like you'd hope for. More the the damn president is involved because of course he is :

Quote:
President Donald Trump said Sunday that the proposed $72 billion merger between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery "could be a problem" because of the amount of market share the resulting company would have.

"Well, that’s got to go through a process, and we’ll see what happens," he told reporters as he walked the Kennedy Center Awards’ red carpet in Washington.

[...]

Trump said he would consult "some economists" before the deal get his stamp of approval. "I’ll be involved in that decision, too," he said. Historically, presidents have not often gotten involved in antitrust approvals when companies seek to merge.

Paramount's owner and CEO have kowtowed to Trump in the past, so they're already ahead of the ball there. Paramount's offer is literally supported by money from Trump's son-in-law (and Saudi/Qatari/U.A.E. money, if you want to make things even more morally dubious!). If you ask me, the fix is in, boys. The Netflix deal is dead in the water if they attempt to keep moving forward.

Disgusting. I don't want the next Superman movie to be written by Ben Shapiro, directed by Dinesh D'Souza, star James Woods and Gina Carano, feature the music of Kid Rock, and end with Trump coming in and saying, "Make Krypton Great Again!"
