Besides possible being creepy it might be real sad too given how many children are likely in the same position.

That sure was a premiere filled with a few cute moments yet containing far more questionable and annoying ones. The ending made my alarm bells go off since I am absolutely not into another Usagi Drop surprise.

A drop it is.

Episode 1

I didn't mind this. I found Rirui in her child form cute. I'm watching very few fantasy set shows this season so my tolerance is probably a bit higher than it might otherwise have been. I'll watch some more. Not an automatic keeper, that's for sure.

Ep2- I think this cinches the plot trajectory, Hajime isn't having to keep himself from banging Rirui as some claimed and she isn't trying to seduce him as a woman so it seems the show will continue to be wholesome with some low-key fanservice and I am loving it. Interested to see how the writer uses Rirui's "talents" in a non-sexual context though.... The concept is emotionally stunted and rough Hajime learns to grow up some and be a good father to Rirui and she learns to be the self-confident adventurer she thinks she needs to be to survive while finding someone she can rely on and who loves her as the "loud and smiley" person she is.

Episode 04

This was a hilarious rom-com episode. It's funny that Hajime is trying to be considerate, and yet, is really oblivious at the same time. Aside from momentarily showing Rirui's transformation in the first two episodes, 3 and 4 haven't gone back to it and have actually introduced some pretty fun characters. It's just been silly adventures in training with a new kid friend for Rirui, then some romantic trouble with a stone-gazing medusa lady who develops a crush for Hajime. At least give it a shot through this episode. The humor is on the wackier side.

I am oddly kind of mostly interested in the succubus element, as much as I would prefer it to not be a child be at the centre of several inappropriate jokes. It extends that I have an interest in the succubus/incubus monster, especially beyond the usual pigeonhole it tends to find itself, so that being an element has my interest. I did have to do a double take when the subtitles translated the "other name" for a succubus to being concubus, because I have mostly seen the word use as a gender neutral version of a succubus and incubus. Succubus being "to lay under", incubus being "to lay on top", with Concubus to mean "to lay beside". I don't know if it was the most correct word, as it seemed to be in response to her having dream powers.

My other thought on the show is that it is kind of cowardly. It goes way too light on the monster features, with succubi having no demonic features, and the medusa having no snake features let alone at least having something like braided hair to invoke snakes. And the other girl is supposed to be a dwarf or something, but it not like she is particularly more dwarf than the other girl.

Ep4- Last week I was wondering with mixed feelings what kind of twist an episode entitled "Love's First Outcome" might bring in context of an under-age succubus and a 29-year old man who bed together, but for once I am glad dyslexia struck and we got nothing seedy. "First Love's Outcome" only had said doofus saying to a beautiful young woman "so I get to touch your but and oppai for free...?". Can't believe how much of an idiot about interpersonal relationships he is supposed to be, but man... Shocked

So, I am still unapologetically loving this cute, wholesome show and I agree with Tony K, unless this inexplicably "goes off the rails" I would hope more people check this show out because it deserves some love...

Ep6- Had to comment that this episode's second half showcased Hajime's and Rirui's soft hearts and was rather touching that he should take time out to see old acquaintances and honor those who died in the slums, forgotten by the world but who are most definitely not forgotten by him and that she wished she could have made his terrible early life better but can at least show him someone cares in the present. Together, the visual narrative creates an compelling symmetry, Rirui is a young girl who feels small and wants to become "grown up" and Hajime is a grown man trying to cover up that inwardly he never really grew up...

Episode 08

Lots of action and higher stakes in this one. By the way, for those still hesitant after Episode 02's reveal of "young child transforms into adult babe form" it has not become an issue. In fact, it has very much taken a backseat, since then. The series has been mostly about Hajime caring for Rirui and the latter wanting to become a better adventurer to help Hajime, but with some very silly results in-between. It has been a very good-natured show, up until this point where spoiler[ Hajime got bloodied and lost an arm trying to protect Rirui]. Maybe they'll come up with some magic-y way to fix that. But he dang-near went Saitama on those monsters (same seiyuu, by the way).

Yeah, this show brings the cute. I larfed when Rirui charged at the spikesaurus with a fierce expression on her face, yelling, "Taste my sword!" Man, Hajime can be quite the dick. I know the kid from the Village Watch was obnoxious to him first, but man, Hajime was absolutely BRUTAL in his mockery when he thought Natalie was shooting the kid down.

^^Like I said "Never Grew Up"...Even his pre-occupation with Oppai is on the juvenile side...Just hope there is some magic for that arm, you aren't in a Monty Python skit bud... Confused Willing to bet that that will lead to Rirui transforming into a more adult adventurer maybe starting next week...

This wasn't bad at all, and many of the episodes were pretty funny, especially the trip to meet the tortoise in the elemental realm. The extra drama in the last few episodes wasn't really that necessary or effective, but maybe that's just the way someone thinks should be in a show. Overall weird premise selected by the author to write about.

Episode 12 (Finale)

Yeah, I didn't mind this. Unlike some other not great shows I've been following this winter, this one did basically manage to keep me engaged right to the end. I admit I'm a sucker for "cute kids" shows and this one had a number of them. I also felt it didn't go down the skeevy path I was worried about at the beginning. 6/10.
