Generally agree with this assessment and would grade it exactly the same. It's not among my favorites for the genre but was entertaining enough that I did fully rewatch it in dubbed form (and I agree about the evaluation of that, too) and will certainly continue watching its upcoming sequel.

I've watched it twice & enjoyed it both times. I do like that Pride is not one to just sit back and watch and is more than willing to get her hands dirty if it means protecting the people she cares about, and while she can go overboard at times you can't accuse her of not acting when need be. Same with Val and to an extent Gilbert. It's not the best show out there (Tiara could use more character development, and the ENG VAs could do better, though I imagine they will assuming S2 is dubbed) but overall it's a solid and enjoyable show.

EDIT: I forgot to mention this before but for Stale the slave thing was only in the original timeline and only because Pride took advantage of his illiteracy just for kicks. In the current timeline while he does work for her it's cause he wants to rather than cause he has to & he's free to visit his mom when time allows.

I know I watched this, but can't recall a thing about it except for Stale's silly name, even after reading the review. :/

Stale is ... now a brother-in-law and potential love interest

Like I said, I don't remember, but surely you meant he became her adoptive brother. Brother-in-law implies he's married to Pride's sister, which I hope would make him ineligible as a potential love interest for her, now that she's trying to be good.

But wait a second, isn't Stale technically a slave in this timeline...

You're fundamentally mistaken. He was only forced to sign the Fealty contract in the original timeline. He is officially the adopted son of the royal family and treated as such. He can't just willfully visit his mother in town for the same reason any royal can't just casually stroll about town. The fact he can still stay in contact with her thanks to Pride is a big deal and one if the rumors Gilbert was spreading around about her early on. I don't know how you came to the conclusion that it would be better if his own mother sold him off when the whole point of this show is making the love interests happy. That's just not paying attention or sloppy note taking.

The light novel does refer to him as a brother-in-law and when he's first introduced he is introduced as Pride's adopted brother-in-law. I suspect this might simply be an issue in translation that perhaps loses some of the meaning. I am not sure what term was used in the original text, but it wouldn't be surprising if it was a term similar to mukoyōshi which Wikipedia has as literally meaning "adopted son-in-law," and is the term used for "an adult man who is adopted into a Japanese family as a daughter's husband, and who takes the family's surname." In the series' context it would probably make more sense to say simply say "adopted" but he probably keeps being called brother-in-law because of a lost in translation term likely always being used that best describes his position within the family.

Though if we want to complain about terms, their country being called a Kingdom wouldn't be right either since the Queen is always the ruler and the crown is always passed from mother to daughter.

So are you suggesting that if mukoyōshi was the original term then it's fine for him to just switch daughters if he falls in love with Pride? oO I don't think that's how that works. But there is no other definition for "son-in-law" in English that I'm aware of that doesn't involve marriage. So even if the translation did use that term, I still think it's problematic if he's to be a love interest for Pride.
