So, is Minami playing dumb because he recognizes how anxious and self conscious Kuroe is about her kaiju-ness, or is he actually just dumb?

Also, have we been told Kuroe hatched from the egg and I missed it? We've had lingering shots of the egg, implying a connection between it and Kuroe, but I didn't think there had been any explanation about it yet.

Yes! Please write that essay! I want to see a breakdown of this series through a transgender lens!

After episode 3, I am convinced Minami is playing dumb out of a desire let her open up to him at her own pace.

In a lot of ways it makes too much sense to base her kaiju form after Godzilla since he is not only one of the most recognizable characters in monsterdom but fiction in general. For me though, that choice takes on a deeper meaning when his background is taken into consideration.

As a monster, Godzilla has no individual relationships to humans like say Frankenstein. He does have a relationship with humanity as a collective. One steeped in profound hatred, not singling out anyone. Besides his scale and power, this lends him his deified status. To him, one human is the same as another.

By contrast, Kuroe is defined by her personal relationships. For her to reject her self-worth, her chance for happiness, is to reject her humanity. To take out her indiscriminate rage on the society that denies her right to exist. To become a God of Destruction.

(Giving-in to despair? Rejecting humanity? Becoming a god? How Evangelion!)

I'm very curious to see how this will unfold! And what your take will be!

Also, like many I'm sure, I've already made it my personal head-cannon that Kuroe is the daughter of Godzilla. Kuroe: Princess of the Monsters!

Firmly in the "strongly implied" rather than "explicitly spelled out" category at the moment. I'd say it's reasonably clear that her mother knows more than she's told Kuroe. It's somewhat implied (by the egg, and some of mom Rinko's mutterings to herself) that Kuroe isn't "a human who turns into a kaiju" but rather "a kaiju who generally appears human".

And honestly, it could go either way on Minami. I initially thought he'd figured it out, but then thought no, maybe he's just that dumb. Or delusional. We've seen no shortage of MCs in similar comedy-focused romcoms displaying equal amounts of obliviousness.

This has been pretty fun so far, I am enjoying the comedy.
Turning into Godzilla because you re in love is a hilarious concept.
