Thats the name of it right? Kyoran Kazoku Nikki?
I gave the show a shot and, well, found it lacking. The premise is wacky enough, a god wants to get married and start a family to stop a potential force of evil from coming to fruition, so I gave it two episodes to wow me... At all. Instead it made me ill and brought to mind articles about the anime industry in Japan catering to otakus. The heroine's appearance is ghastly in my opinion, and her personality feels like a rip-off of Haruhi. The guy is the classic normal person along for the ride. The rest of the family is an array of oddities: a schoolgirl, a lion, a bio-weapon, a gay guy and a jellyfish. Zany hijinks ensue, by which I mean perfectly routine anime scenarios. Really I could probably enjoy the series, but the heroine grates against my soul, as does the end theme (Which is no reason to condemn a series, but it is a contributing factor to my loathing). But, like I said, I only watched the first two episodes. Has anyone seen more that cares to defend it, or do most share my analysis? Also, I didn't see a subject for this show which is why I posted a new one, sorry if there was already a topic for it. |

I don't think it was superb, but it was fun enough. I'll watch the rest of it.
Looking at the premise I wasn't expecting to be "wowed" by this. I expected it to be a zany comedy type series with cat girls that catered to the otaku crowd, which is exactly what it was. I'd certainly prefer it over than something relying completely on fanservice like Kanokon (which I found to be dull as hell). Not that I find fanservice bad, but when there's nothing else...
Haruhi is hardly the first with that type of personality. In fact, most of the characters were supposed to be parodies of stereotypical anime personalities. Other than that, I find her nose to be pretty unattractive at times. But that's just the art style.
I liked it more than most of the ending themes this season. And I like the butt shaking too.
There are only two episodes out right now, the third hasn't aired yet. |

This was just awesome.... and if you don't like the ED theme don't worry this show has another ED theme for every single main character.

The ED theme is so MOE.
MOSAIC.WAV is awesome. And so as the JELLYFISH. I like Hanazawa's voice so much, which is also in Sketch Book~ And Ranka is not a HARUHI. Actually she is thoughtful and kind as a mother despite of the appearance, also so cute as a wife~ ps:At least it is more interesting than Kanokon~ |

Maybe its because it was only the first two episodes, but she felt like Haruhi, mostly the way she was dragging that poor guy everywhere. Also, again maybe because its just the first two, but the "motherly" side of her seems harshly inconsistant with her character the rest of the time, almost like she acts that way to spite the father figure.
To reply to PantsGoblin, I wasn't seriously expecting to be "wowed", simply exaggerating when I said that, which I have a tendency to do online, not that I'm expecting you to know that. Also, I understand that the personalities are supposed to be stereotypes, but this was implemented rather poorly in my experience with the show. Having seen shows where stereotype parodies are done well, this one almost seemed to be taking itself seriously with the characters, which was another factor in my poor view of it. I had been considering letting the series play out a little longer to see if it was going to start doing good parody work, but that woman... I really just dislike everything about her. Like I said before, she grates against my very soul. If it was just her character design or her personality I could take it, but its both, and she's the heroine, so while everyone is no doubt now like "Geez, you don't like it, so stop writing." I will ask if there is any sort of redeeming aspect that makes the series worth spending time on if I already have others that I'm looking at watching (JFYI: Crystal Blaze, Amatsuki, and Kaiba). I don't care about spoilers, gimme spoilers, interesting plot points are pretty much the only thing that could make me interested at this point. |

Actually, I was specifically referring to Haruhi when I said the characters were supposed to be parodies. But I suppose it can also apply to some of Kyouran Kazoku Nikki's characters as well. |

Motherly figure? Yeah, Kyoka cares about Yuka and the others, and is way smarter than she gives the impression of most of the time, but I don't think I'd call it motherly.
Episode 2 caught me almost completely off-guard. After the hyperactive lunacy of the first episode, the shift to the seriousness of Yuka's situation seemed a little off-putting. Sure, the tone is rectified at the end of the episode with the spoiler[magical girl parody and the introduction of a kinda-shadowy maniacal villain], but it felt unsettling. |
