I haven't seen the anime yet, but I have read the manga up to where Sakura and Granny Chiyo beat puppet guy. (shoot cant remember name lol) They better not let Gaara die my theory is that Granny Chiyo will use the rest of her reviving power to bring Gaara back to life
Can't wait to see the new Hinata

I mean in the fight with the Third and Orochi, they used elemental powers and combined them often. But it was just because they trained to use the techniques. Having an affinity seems like an after thought just thrown in the mix.
|
Yeah, but like I said, it fits. If you go back, almost all characters use only one, or perhaps two types of chakra, except for those shown to be exceptionally versitile.
And most of the jutsu HAVE always started with their element type, "Fuuton Kamitachi no Jutsu", "Katon Gokyaku no Jutsu", "Douton Doryuuheki no Jutsu". Raikiri is technically "Raiton Raikiri no Jutsu", ut I don't think it's ever called that.
| Quote: | | Ok, then what is Kabuto using when he makes his hand into a type of scalpel/knife, wind as well? |
Probably, since they wind affinity involve slicing (as also evidenced in Temari's fuuton techniques). It might just be raw chakra though, like Naruto's Rasengan, which would be a rather "brute force" approach to it, similar to how some characters can burn people with their raw chakra, wihtout actually employing Katon techniques.

I am not arguing Naruto shouldn't have known about it in training, I'm saying it feels childish to add all of this in the anime at this point. Whether we're following him or not(and thus, not learning about it till he does), it feels way past where this should have been introduced. In the end, I'm sure it's just another "godlike technique" he'll learn, use effectively for one arc, and then "spam" like he does with Rasengan now in all the fillers and even canon till he can get something better. |
Kiiiinda.
Besides, as shonen anime goes, it's hardly the biggest leap a series has taken. I mean, the "Nen" aspect of Hunter X Hunter, the "Dragon Ball Z" portion of Dragon Ball, the "Vaizard" aspect of Bleach, "Oversouls" in Shaman King, they all sort of came out of nowhere at some point and were much larger changes to their series than the elemental effects in Naruto.
| Quote: | | I will say this, it wasn't by chance that Jiraiya taught a wind element to Naruto, but I won't spoil it. |
Rasengan isn't wind element, it's elementally neutral, like wall walking or basic cloning. Now what IS wind element is. . .
That gave me a funny idea though, Wind Clones! I wonder what those would be like.
| Quote: | | I mean they tried to teach him shadow clones for so long with him failing every time, but he spends a couple hours with a forbidden scroll and he can do it better than anyone alive. |
Everyone else (mostly) just uses regular clones (Bunshin). Only Naruto, Kakashi, and the third (so far as we know) can make shadow clones (Kage bunshin). Of course other characters can make them out of water, wood, ink, earth, etc. The regular clones that aren't made of things are just illusions, they have no mass. The ones filled with stuff are more complex, and the shadow clones are apparently the most complex of all, and can return memories to the user.
THAT is actually the point of contention that I have with the series, that after three+ years of using kagebunshin like they were going out of style, Naruto failed to pick up on the fact that as they "died" they would return information to him. You would think that when he sent dozens of them in swarms after Kimimaro and Sasuke that they would have come back to him with a little sense, and he would now be a really great fighter. That's the one element that actually doesn't gel with previous experience.

That move is said to actually be a medical jutsu turned into an attack. So it would just be raw chakra or whatever medic-nin normally use.

Well, there's no reason that medical jutsu couldn't use elemental affinities as well. But his probably were just pure chakra.

Yes. The training scenes were from the manga, but everything involving the Sora character and the temple guards and all that is pure filler (although consistant with elements of the next manga arc, which also involves the fire temple).
I do wish that they'd at least thead some of the Sasuke elements into this filler arc though, instead of bunching it all up later.

this most recent episode (the double episode containing 64 and 65) was the first really good episode of this arc. Label me suddenly excited to see how things go down. And did they seriously just bring ZOMBIES into the mix? Excellent. (Hopefully they won't mess this up in upcoming episodes.)
I'm also hoping this signals the beginning of the end of this particular arc. Four battles.... one for each of the baddies... plus a sparring between Sora and Naruto, although if they stay true to formula Sora will suddenly realize how alike they are and they'll suddenly be best buds4ever.

Can I ask a question?
Is it ever confirmed when the fillers for Naruto will end or is there never an exact time when they will end. I never really got how the anime operates when it comes to these types of things.

It will be almost 9 years since the Naruto started in Japan,we would have seen something by now.It looks like filler will continue to be on and off without notice.
Usually the manga is used like a script, when making the anime. There have been times when it's the other way around. It's not common for any anime title to just get by on filler.I should say,it's not an easy thing to do.I used to watch the show to compare the manga counterpart. It was looking good until episode 105 or so when the filler started.
I believe that the Fans are also divided. Those who will remember the Manga (official)and those who will remember the Anime(filler mix). The whole Naruto animated series seems to be filler with scattered bits of the official story now.Even the 4 movies up to this point have been filler.I'm for the official story only though,it wouldn't have bothered me if the filler wasn't so damn obvious, sidetracked and terribly generic.

Thanks for the info.
So I guess it's the anime's job to let us know when we get back into Naruto continuity.

I'm hoping the fillers won't last too long now that they're getting into the end battles (assuming the konoha shinobis don't tag team).
Latest episode had a teaser for the movie coming next month and I find it a bit worrisome. All the movies have been filler so far, so having Naruto and Sasuke temporarily join up against some evil menace at this point of the story is just silly.
I found the start of this newest filler slightly jarring. Splitting the leaf was "phase 1". My understanding of Kakashi's comments at the start of "phase 2" is that the first phase took Naruto only a few hours to pass and it's still the same day, or possibly the next day. Now we have a filler arc between these phases, even though they're quite a ways from catching up to the manga. Admittedly, once the main story continues, there isn't room for filler adventures.
I suppose I should be grateful that they've at least bothered to look for a break for the fillers to fit in, instead of doing what was done with Bleach or One Piece (they had an ubercheap filler bunch mid-action where each character's life flashes before their eyes. Yes, stock footage recut into an episode. An episode per character. )

The reason that most of the films have been filler is so that they can explore different areas of the anime they wouldn't be plausible during the actual sow. We know Sasuke and Naruto don't team up in shippuuden, but this movie provides a "what if" persay. IF nothing else, it' brilliant marketing. I mean, who wouldn't pay to see Naruto and Sasuke fight along side one another once again ????
Having a Naruto movie that actually pertains important information series informatiion is unlikely to happen. Dragonball didn't do it, Naruto won't either.

Well, he only progresses so quickly though wiht "the machine" at work, Kakashi and Yamato acting to keep him stablized. On his own he can't train nearly as effectively, so he wouldn't grow as fast.

This is (currently) the last convenient spot in the main plot to add filler without disrupting the plot flow too badly. I think my point is, WHY was Naruto sent on this mission? He certainly has the stamina to keep going with the training and he doesn't have the sort of mindset that'd want a break to quietly contemplate this latest advancement of his abilities. They also know that Akatsuki is on the move and it's a matter of time before they come for Naruto so the training has a certain amount of urgency to it.
