I just recently discovered Letter Bee. I was really enjoying the show until about episode 11 when the over arching story basically evaporated and the show turned into a "helping random people".
As much as I enjoy Letter Bee, I can't really stomach too many "random people you are somehow supposed to care about but will never see again" episodes and Lag crying everytime he sees into the "heart" of a letter. Are there any fans of the show that can maybe point out where I can skip to (for example, "the story picks back up in episode 21") before I completely loose interest in the show? |

I would suggest watching 1-11, 13, 17 (which was the original OVA and was pretty sweet), and then 21-25 (21 and the first half of 22 are filler but since they were written by the manga-ka it doesn't feel like it and it's a good segue into the last arc), episode 26 is the start of season two. Everything else is filler and, while not all of it is bad, some of it is really terrible (like, even my computer refused to play it terrible).
Hope that helped! |

This is not only relates to filler, but episodes 5 (not filler?), 18, and many more are stupid. Actually, there are stupidities on all levels of this story -- twelve points/items at least.
1-5: spoiler[1) There Lag faces cruel people who try to kill him, and yet just because they had good big motives behind their actions, they are supposed to be good people. Viewers are supposed to have "aaaw, they are actually such pure and nice people in their hearts" emotion. Do authors have any idea how deviant this is? Do they know that Stalin (or Jozef Djugashvili, his true name) was internationalist-communist that wanted to make people happy, believed that every person should have guaranteed healthcare and job, believed in equality (he really meant that; he has died poor, and lived the most of his life in darned clothes in two-room apartment even long after he became sole dictator) -- but was "just" not very selective of his means to achieve this? I mean authors surely have very creepy, distorted, crooked sense of morality and their idea with whom viewers should feel sympathy is really worrying; 2) episode 24 is an insult to viewers: three bees can not kill the bug while it usually requires only one bee to kill, and two of bees just stand and watch how the bug eats hear of the young woman -- while they could shoot in bug's butt and that would be end of it. And then one of the bees shoots at random points of bug that obviously not "weak place" and gets caught, too, along with another guy. The manga is really of low quality if this is mangaka's material. 3) whole show/manga is incredibly stupid because it turns out there is no actual danger of be "done" by a bug since the only thing you need to recover is to kill the bug. If it takes time -- more than few weeks -- to find the bug, then patients get connected to life support, fed manually or intravenously, so they would wait for when the bug gets killed. Thus whole drama about Zazie's parents dying is done out of thin air; 4) in the 26th episode, instead of shooting Gauche with his memory showcase arrow, Lag just tries to talking him into remembering himself -- incredibly stupid again; 5) Insanely, Gauche does not even try to understand his situation, even though he does not remember anything from earlier than five years ago and all what he knows is what he was told by his master thief. It is not believable at all that he just pushes away Lag and, more importantly, his own sister, not being interested in his past;] 6-10: spoiler[6) Gauche tells that he means no harm to Lag, but yet shoots at him just because this stupid annoying kid rushed to him one more time -- are we supposed to believe that Gauche is good person after this (memory issue has nothing to do with person's character, so it is not excuse; it not like "Well, I forgot who I am, so I do not remember whether I TAUGHT and/or DECIDED to be good and fair, or not, so I can choose to be bad this time around" -- you can not teach or decide things like that)? 7) Gauche assistant pet proclaimed dramatically to Niche that she is failure as assistant because she had her master not protected, basically killed (by Gauche). And yet it turns out nothing dangerous happened to Lag after the shot, so all of this is cheap excuse to make the story more dramatic via such false pseudo "dai pinchi" settings. 8) How come in episode 31 Lag sees that people from the capital left bottle with the memories of the revolutionists and never questioned that those people are betrayers/revolutionists themselves? Does Lag lag in brain area? (Rhetorical question.) 9) The idea that "Letter Bees" are symbols of oppression is ridiculous. Author certainly has no idea how such states are run (Hint: it is militaristic, police-control regime. Not regime where the only sign of government is kind bishounens. 10) What is with this nonsense about things having memories in them, but somehow those memories are not shown from the point of view of either that thing or its owner?] 11-15: spoiler[11) How come Connor's "girlfriend" Sunny all of sudden was the only one miraculously some heart of hers left? And why she did not get her heart returned once giant bug was killed by Lag, unlike it usually happens (see #3)? 12) if Gauche's heart was exhausted as the guy from the airship said, then why did not Gauche turned comatose state where he would not move or eat and just die in few weeks? 13) Why there are people who want to work as Letter Bees if they knew that they will exhaust their harts with shooting at bugs and die? It is form of suicide then? 14) this show has the best tools for flashback abuse in absolutely each episode. Sometimes they even have flashbacks within episode that cite the same episode, which is ultimate flashback crime. Also, what is the point of Lag's speciality in revealing memories of things if they are showing them anyway, just out of the blue, no matter if Lag's shoots or not? Sometimes memories get broadcasted to everyone nearby after just any random Bee's shots; 15) "Lag" is ridiculous name to choose for character that is all about postal service.] |
