Ok, first of all...
English is my second language, so I'm really sorry if there are any mistakes.. Now with the question: 
My country is the worst that I ever heard about in terms of anime and manga... It's like a setereotype here... It's designed, therefore it's child's stuff... 
So there is only one store in the all country which sells manga. I'm going there tomorrow (it's really, but really far, so it's one chance in one milion)... Now, what I wanted to ask, it's how you define Akira, 'because I was thinking in buying it... I now that is rated to a mature audiance... I know that is extremely violent (at least i think so), but if it was just that... violence... If there is any hentay scene, please tell me... 'because that's my problem... If it has, I won't buy it... So, if you please enlight me!!
I'm minor of age... (not yet 18, 14 to be exact). That's the exact problem of the hentai part. Thanks anyway, for disposing some of your time to read this!

Well, I can tell you that there are no sex scenes, and very little nudity. If I remember correctly, there are only two instances where we see the nude top of a female, and those really are no big deal and are not intended for fanservice. Both are rather short if I remember correctly. My memory might be a bit fuzzy, so hopefully someone will confirm this.
As for violence, yes there is quite a bit, and some of the images towards the end are certainy freaky. Overall it's tough to rate. I really don't see any problems with a fourteen year old reading Akira. |

And now for a dissenting viewpoint.
I don't view Akira as particularly suitable for children - even mid-teens. Not only is it a very convoluted story with unpleasant overtones, it also has multiple scenes of explicit violence and a some overt sexuality - including a rape scene (which I'll grant you isn't shown in detail). I'd peg the minimum age for reading the Akira manga at 16+, and maybe slightly younger for viewing the anime (paradoxically, the anime makes less of an impression than the manga). Having said that, you know best where to draw the line - and if you don't want a manga with explicit sexuality, don't buy Akira. What country is it that you live in, if I may ask? - abunai |

Which volume was the rape scene in, because I don't remember it unless you talking about when those thugs spoiler[grabbed Kei and were going to rape her until "the cow" blew their brains out].
And it was actually intended for teens around the age of fourteen (at least they were included in the demographic I read, though at the bottom). Yes there is a complex plot with concept and ideas behind it that are difficult to understand, but it still has some of the better action scenes in manga. Doh! Now that I think about it, Akira does have a sex scene. It isn't particuarly graphic, but it features several females nude (it shows their breasts) and is followed by violence (which isn't particuarly sexual in nature).

I decided not to buy Akira, (I'll buy it later, mayby one year or two from now  ) since it has explicit sexuality.
I buyed Dark Angel instead.(the only manga, besides Akira and Mother Sarah that is translated to portuguese  )

I'm not a language expert, so if this sounds stupid, please forgive me - but how big are the differences between regular Portuguese and Brazillian Portuguese? I ask because I've heard a lot of people talk about them differently, but if they're not that big of a deal, you could try importing manga from Brazil. When I went there a couple years ago, I found a lot of it just being sold at newsstands, and I still have a copy of Evangelion #1 (since I was really into that series at the time). Just a thought.
