That thought occurred to me after the after-credits scene in "Evangelion: 2.0" were spoiler[Kaworun proclaims "This time Shinji, I'll definitely make you happy".]

So.. could "Rebuild" take place in another dimension who is connected to that of the original series?
Or - somehow - even take place after "The End of Evangelion"!?

What do you think?

There's been a lot of talk about this subject, and yeah, it could very well be that the Rebuild movies are an elaborately disguised sequel to the original series. Some of the evidence:

-The characters all seem better adjusted than they were in the TV series
-The ocean is red, hinting it has been contaminated by LCL
-There is a giant line of blood on the moon, potentially from the events of End of Evangelion
-There are a number of coffins on the moon. Do they represent the angels that have yet appeared, or could they signify the number of times NGE has repeated? Probably the former
-There is a huge wrapped up thing on the moon wearing the mask of SEELE. Is it the body of Unit 06, some being derived from Lilith or the body of Unit 01, retrieved from space?
-The series is called "Rebuild" of Evangelion. The title could be entirely literal: that the events of the TV series are "rebuilding" themselves once again

At any rate, it will be interesting to see how things will play out.

I agree. Everything seems pointing that this is a sequel of some sort. Oh well can't wait for 3.0 and 4.0

Let's face it, it's Anno. I wouldn't put it past him to have the two continuities connected after all in the most mindscrew-ish way possible.

And I'd love it (especially since most mindscrew makes perfect sense to me........for some reason).

It's definitely possible. But I think right now, on a very technical stance though; it's considered a retelling of EVA in a more balanced sense with more experience from the crew. Maybe something like a creative/directorial rehash now that they have a better grasp of different styles of story telling and a bigger budget and just ironing out a few rough spots. Like George Lucas but good.

Something just similar to the dream Shinji had towards the end of the 1st series where its just a kind of alternate reality is possible. The chance of it being a sequel because the first series reseted itself is entirely possible as well as you suggested. That latter would be interesting but I feel it might change the overall tone of the series if that were the case. The "reseting world" or "Groundhog Day" or, (I guess the more current reference would be) the "Endless 8" style effect really affects one's viewing perspective.

It's probably too early for anything definitive especially since we don't know how movie 3 and 4 will play out. But its fun thinking about it.

Looks like the Anno read Re-Take, and took it to consideration.
But it would be mind blowing if all of what you guys are thinking, is true.

That should be on the posters.

Regarding the red ocean, I seem to recall the ocean being red in flashbacks to the Second Impact in the TV series.

My personal belief is that all of the visual cues to this being a sequel to the first series will turn out to be red herrings. But who knows? Maybe not even Anno.

You know I just think it's Anno trolling everyone.

Really we are not going to know till 3 and 4 comes out. I mean 2 vaguely followed the t.v series, just took stuff out and added in Mari.

Where'd you guys see this already? I didn't think it had been released in English yet.

Really getting tired of waiting, don't want to engage in quasi- or flat out illegal behavior to see it.

We downloaded it of course. Illegal behavior, short of importing a Hong Kong release with subs (it's not a bootleg though) is all you've got right now.

I don't think any of us have gone into detail about 2.0 (if we have seen it) and are all more likely speaking from a 1.0 point of view and general sense from what we know of the purpose of the EVA movie projects. All the stuff yamata touched on comes from 1.0 too I believe. But we do acknowledge that 2.0 is out and that some of us have probably seen the raws, fansubs, or bought the imports either from Japanese or questionable chinese sources. I technically have the RAWs for AMV purposes but have yet to watch it.

1.0 and 1.11 have been out in the states for a few months now though. And I think its safe to say at least half of us plan to support the official 2.0 release when available in our regions. And the other half eventually at their leisure.

People keep saying this, but Anno's never trolled the audience, and nobody has any evidence of it. It's just one of those things that becomes popular to say on the internet because some people dislike the ending of the TV series or think Anno created EoE for "revenge", another thing there's no proof of.

It's probably just a bunch of nods to the TV series continuity for fans of the series and nothing more.

Yep I do plan on getting 2.0 when its released here the in US, but with news that Funimation doesn't have 2.0 licensed, I'm a bit concerned. But hopefully it will still be picked up by them or some other company since 1.0 was a top seller on amazon for quite some time.
