This guy was at some deal where people can be superheroes, and Man-Faye was there. He explained who he was and they showed a pic of him and Faye, then he did a little dance or something and dropped his cell phone. Was interesting and a bit of a promotion for anime and Cowboy Bebop, since he mentioned both.

Showing a 40-year-old man dancing around in hot pants while dressed as an animated character of the opposite gender is not a promotion for anime. Rather, it's just another reason for the general public to brush off anime as being "pornographic Japanese cartoons that only perverts watch." Seriously, Man-Faye should've been thrown in jail a long time ago.

ANN interviewed Man-Faye a couple years ago. The interview is actually quite interesting and I recommend that people read it before the jump to conclusions regarding him. He does raise some valid issues about basic rights, cosplay, gender and fandom.

It'll never cease to amaze me how much Man-Faye brings everyone's burning insecurities about liking anime right to the surface. Every single time he appears somewhere—anywhere—there are always a good half-dozen posts on the forum about how much 'x' poster is now going to be ridiculed even more for liking anime, or about how much of a "black eye" Man-Faye has sacked upon the anime community.

I hate to ask this, but are you guys really so ashamed of being an anime fan that you can't take one guy making a spectacle of himself? All on his own? Without a single concrete indication that he is your representative? If so, I'd honestly recommend getting a new hobby, because there are a lot more people besides Man-Faye making an embarassing spectacle of their fandom (and stay away science fiction or comic books too; they're...actually worse for this sort of thing). Really, just laugh it off and move on; if anything, taking it in stride will make you less of a target for this "persecution" you all seem well convinced Man-Faye will bring upon you.

Ummm....Nah he shouldn't be thrown in jail, lets not be too conservative about a small issue like this. In fact I wouldn't even call it an issue, the dude is just expressing his opinion, having some fun. What's wrong with that? I also agree with Nagisa in that: why does this one man represent anime? and why do you care? If people dislike anime or think its pornography that inspires events like this, does that make the anime you are watching any worse?

To answer that and prevent anyone from providing a long rant to answer the last few questions that I asked : Nah, I don't think so

Oh but if you do feel the need to provide a long rant answering those questions, go ahead, it entertains me.

As my crazy English Professor would say "Well said young one" this is so true that this is really how it is. I happened to be in San Diego once when a Trekkie convention was going on. I was scarred for my life, a large portion of these fans (I use this loosely) actually believe star trek is real, have develop there own language which has it own grammical rules. Just let it go.

He's a crossdresser that hides behind a fandom and makes everyone else look stupid while hiding. Man-Faye on Leno only makes things worse for the fandom as a whole.

I'd love to see Man-Faye in prison. Wouldn't last a day. Twisted Evil

Too late, a lot of anime fan (the fandom) already look stupid and uncool (goes out to lolita and moe otakus). Sure man-faye is doing it for cheap laugh and to get attention, but you can't take it too seriously. I think it's funny that an "anime fan" can poke fun at his hobby when it's done with a good sense of humor...and if you're really anal about this, you're probably taking anime as a hobby WAY too seriously. Stop idolizing anime like it's your life and you'll probably enjoy the fandom more.

My first exposure to Man-Faye was actually the news feature that was ran a while back. I'm pretty sure it wasn't "years ago" because I haven't even been here a year and I remember reading that article on the front page.

I just think he is really funny and he has balls, thank god he doesn't expose them, for pulling such a stunt. Which one of us has never done something stupid just to be funny? Sure he's gotten "fame" from it so maybe most of you are just hating. Maybe you've dressed like Faye many times and you're just haters cause he got the exposure... I just said that to see if anyone actually confesses to dressing like Faye.
