Hey, I've read all 9 Volumes here in America & I've been wondering.....is Kuripika a guy or a girl? He's always looked like a girl to me & I thought Kuripika sounded like a girs name, but just recently I've been noticing that he's reffered to as a "he"....maybe I just never picked up on this before. IDK.

Kurapica is male. Many male manga/anime characters have many feminine traits and have longer hair (Haku from Naruto, Seta Soujirou from Rurouni Kenshin). I believe this is to portray a sense of innocence. And Kurapica doesn't exactly sound like a girl's name...

In gozar's defense, I thought shim was a girl for the first 2 volumes.

Kuripika is what's called a bishounen (pretty boy). Bishounens are characters in anime and manga who often look like women, speak in feminine speech, and are generally the source of many anime fangirls' unnatural obssesions. Kurpikia may look like a girl and speaks in feminine Japanese speech, but he is a boy. It's just he's made to look like a "pretty boy" because it's a popular method to attract female readers to shounen manga.

It can be tough sometimes to tell if the more androgenous characters are male or female, especially in certain styles. The two points I've found to generally show are eyelashes and of course the chest. Granted there are flat-chested female characters out there and males with eyelashes drawn heavily...but the majority of the time I find that this is at least a starting point in figuring it out.

Barring revelations later in the series, Kurapika is a guy. There are a few things that make me wonder if he is actually a girl pretending to be a guy for some reason, but as of volume 9, he is a guy.

He's really... a crossdresser?

Lol, I think I read that the manga-ka purposely was ambiguous with Kurapkia's gender. You know, he is the only character never shown without his shirt, and sometimes his reactions can be strange in regards to that. However, I did read on another site that Kurapika is referred to as he in the artbooks.
Did this post full of I think/I read (I honestly don't know) help at all??

Well, I haven't read the manga, but I've seen the anime, and Kurapika is definetly male. Although, on the crossdressing bit... There was a scene where he disguises himself as a female hotel clerk to surprise the enemy... And he pretty much nailed the part, down the the lipstick. Prety funny since the scene was so serious, none of the characters joked about it later.

Personally I come from the camp that is convinced that Kurapica is female.
So to be in the spirit of things...
EDIT: The top says World Cup something-or-other and on the bottom Kurapica says something like, "By the way, why am I helping out wearing this miniskirt?"
