In the last week before new shows start, I usually shut myself in and tank as many delayed series as possible (Half of Magi s2 and Log Horizon, half of Saki and Sakura Trick) in a torrent of binge snacking, pizza and/or curry and my special mix of iced tea (Hoi, chummer. My favourite too!). I've never called in sick for this, but I have called in sick because of this.
Then comes the massive backup. If it's winter season that's starting, I set about 30gigs of stuff to move to my yearly archive drive. If it's not winter then it goes to the current backup drive. Each folder gets tagged with the BD release schedule, along with a doc on my computer in case the opportunity presents itself in the coming seasons. I then compile a list of everything that's coming and put the relevant links in an .rtf file for easy transport and clicking. Funny enough, this file is named fall2012.rtf, despite it being for whatever season is current. I don't usually check up on what these new shows are about until right before they air. It's a very exciting time in the Bango household. If a very specific series ends spectacularly some specialty baking is even done, usually in cupcake form. Symphogear cupcakes. yummy yum yum. |

I spend a couple days between the end of the current season, once most of the shows I'm following on a weekly basis have finished, and the start of the the new season looking over the list of new shows that are coming up. I jot down what interests me as I read the synopsis provided, then go back over that list and think about if it just seemed interesting as I read about it or if I really do think I'll like it and thus want to watch it. I usually whittle the list down to about 20 shows + whatever I'm watching that's a carryover from last season. I ended up with 30 full length shows for winter since there were 10 carryovers from Fall.

I do a few things.
In the final week or 2 of a season I go over the final chart for the next season, usually this one, and pick out the ones I'm interested in starting and add the to a new page on my list (I use an Excel document, and use AP as my online backup). I will also, once series start to finish, go over everything I started but will not be finishing during the season. I usually decide whether each series is worth adding to my other lists to finish later or whether I have no desire to complete it, I which case I just delete it and move on. I also update my AP list just incase I lose my Excel document somehow. Sometimes if I'm not really into watching anime around the time a new season starts (which has been the case a couple of times) I will just not watch anything new for a few weeks and then go back through my list and see what people are enjoying, then only watch the most recommended ones so I'm not stuck following 15-20 series when I'm just not in the mood to. |

I don't do anything so complicated; I just make a list of all titles that are debuting, when they debut, and who's streaming them (if anyone). I then update said list every time a new streaming announcement comes out. Occasionally in the week before I will cram through the first season of a series that I haven't seen yet that has a sequel due, so that I can do a proper preview of it, but I never do that more than once a season if I do it at all.
Usually I don't spend much time perusing Spotlights, reading synopses, or checking out advance trailers. (Unlike with movies, where I do all of those.) I like to make my first impression when I first sit down to watch the first episode. |

First, I try to finish what I'm currently watching so I don't have a ton of bleed over between seasons. Typically for an upcoming season I don't do much research, I just adjust my filter on AnimeCalendar and try to watch at least 1 episode of each show as it premiers, checking it off as I go. The first couple weeks are spent whittling down my watchlist to around 15 titles.

About 3-4 weeks before the new season, i write down a list of options to watch by reading the descriptions, if is't a anime based on a manga o LN i know and like i skip this step, when the new season has started i watch the first 1-3 eps, depending if i'm liking it, and then deside to continue or drop that anime.
Sometimes i reed the manga, if there is one, to see if it's worth it, that has save me some time and i found myself liking the manga more than the anime Sometimes. |

Well I might feel depressed about things ending, but remind myself some are coming. If there is a full week between I might be able to catch up on things, but it is not that big of a deal, although I do have some I should finish.
I usually remind myself what sequels are coming out, so I know some that I will follow and some that I will avoid. In this case it will be Love Live, Fairy Tail and Date A Live, that I will be following, and avoiding the other sequel series that I have not seen the first season. But I don't like to give myself much specifics on new series, I like to be surprised. Mostly just the time that get out of my system stuff that are ending by writing about them here, so I am ready to start anew. I do have to make sure that I have a picture of the ended series so that I can remember them easy, currently have 355 images in that folder. Actually I might also look at the pictures of the upcoming series and take note of certain studios. |

Well, first I sacrifice 12 goats and then drink the blood of a virgin...
Oh. You don't mean that kind of ritual. I don't do anything in particular. I do try to finish up shows if I'm only a few eps behind and I pick up new shows as the subs start rolling in. I used to sample everything but recently I've been more picky. Of course I have a short list of titles that I'm super excited about that I might not even wait for subs for. |

I just look at lists of what's upcoming and decide what interests me, then use the Preview Guide here to see if anything else takes my fancy. In the week between seasons, I try to catch up with my backlog or finish up things I've fallen behind on from that season.

Wow, I never know watching anime is serious business.
I'm always following ANN/News about upcoming anime on regular basis and decided whether I'll watch it or not. So, by the end of a season, I already have a list of stuff I'm going to watch. If by some chance I come around an anime which looks interesting but still hasn't made in my watch list, I'll give it a try too. When 'no new anime episode' came, I tried to finish my backlog, from previous season or stuff I haven't watched yet. Being casual is the best |

Seeing that I stick with licensed streams, these two paragraphs are almost a foreign language to me; I've tried fansubs before, couldn't stand the mistranslations yet I'm fine with typos. What do I do for the new season? I don't care. Literally, that's what I do. Hype only stands up to the first episode shown and I'd much rather watch shows that won't disappoint me. I still fall for it every season {"This'll be good!";"Ehhh..."} but the only interesting part {including the show itself sometimes} is figuring out which shows will have staying power next season, next year. "Will it still be talked about tomorrow?" shows like Kill la Kill or Attack on Titan? Titan, yes, KlK, "all signs point to no". Wait, let me try again... So far, this season's looking even more lifeless than the winter one. I could be wrong but I really only see three shows that spark my interest. |

I tried the sacrificing goats thing. It resulted in an absolutely horrible season. So the goats must live. Also, stop wasting virgins. We'll need them for later.
I forgot to mention one issue with my usual plans that happens sometime and is happening this coming season- If an anime is based on a visual novel, light novel or manga I don't make any effort to catch up on the source. But as with Persona 4 a few seasons back and AtelierE&L now, I'm smack in the middle of playing the game when the show airs. So I've decided to put those shows off until until I'm done the game, since it likely won't take that long to beat it. If I'm already near the end I'll check the first episode as there will likely be 0 chance of spoilers. |

I just watch everything, excluding kids anime, as it comes out. And eh.. thats pretty much it? Nothing complex about it for me.

My ritual is simple. Add everything new on Crunchyroll to my queue.
I still have stuff on there from a few seasons back I haven't either finished or dropped (or even started) mind... |

I don't do a ton of preparation for an upcoming anime season. I make it a habit to scour ANN's news items and any time I see an announcement for an upcoming show, I put the entry (assuming one has been made) in a folder in My Anime called - imaginatively - Upcoming. As more information becomes available, I note when a show is scheduled to debut.
I tend to cast a pretty wide net and at least sample the first episode of most shows. Things get winnowed down from there. I am happiest when "only" following about 15 titles a season. That seems to be my sweet spot. I've had seasons where I'm following as many as, say, 25 and inevitably I start to fall behind which I find irritating. I don't do the snacking/watching thing that Bango mentioned because I'd be three thousand pounds in no time. There was a weekend not too long ago however, where I laid in a bunch of snacky stuff (chips, licorice, chocolate bars, pop) to consume whilst watching. It's fun to do that occasionally. |
