OW. That's gotta hurt. I remember people laughing at the name and it never being mentioned again. Any idea why?

If after that things Yoichi Wada will depart from game industry, it will be very rigid fate payback, seriously.

Besides being the name of an evil conglomerate (Final Fantasy VII) ? The jokes pretty much write themselves.

This looks like what you would see in a business that is facing a desperate financial situation, they hastily cast about for new ventures & business and if something isn't instantly successful they fold it quickly.
I wonder what the numbers look like that the accountants at Square Enix are showing to their bosses?

There are already other cloud-based gaming services, even major ones.

It seems that the huge competition of other Cloud platform companies have finally done them in; I'm sure this company disappearing won't have any real effect on most mobile users.

That bipolar company will never catch a break it seems but they also need to start learning from their failures.

Shinra was different. It was meant to use cloud technology to aid in game development, rather than distribution.

More bad news from Square Enix; kind of desperate is exactly right. The last ten years are up for review...

The company's name is Shinra.
And it's a "Cloud"-based service?
I see what you did there, Square-Enix.

Oh, it got even better than that. Avalanche Studios (the Just Cause people) was helping out with that project.

If only Shinra could have been shut down so easily in the game.

I can just imagine Reeve, Scarlet, Heidegger and Palmer all crowded around a table in the Shinra conference room, when all of a sudden Rufus busts through the door.
Rufus: "Gentlemen, change of plans! We're getting out of the energy business and putting all our stock into the creation and distribution of pachinko machines."
Everyone else: "DAAAAAWWWWWWW!!!!!"
