I have a read a little bit of it. If you don't mind the gory part, it is actually quite fun. It is like the anti-Silver Spoon; both set in Hokkaido, a Tokyo protagonist (war vet here vs a student in Silver Spoon) with a local sidekick, violent yet share a sense of humour with animals and food.

"Sugimoto launched the series"

Shouldn't that be "Noda launched the series"?
