Cretton also has Spider-Man: Brand New Day coming out at the end of the month. Oh, and he posted the following statement on the Naruto project on his IG: https://www.instagram.com/destindaniel/p/DalouA2yHj9/

Their best live-action movie adaptation of a anime was was Alita: Battle Angel.
But they made Dragon Ball: Evolution... Death Note... The Last Airbender... Ghost in the Shell... I have only low expectations until I see a trailer. |

Airbender is not an anime. And considering how long Neuromancer has been in development hell, I think GITS turned out alright.

Heard nothing but bad things about Shang Chi and the MCU Spider-Man has been nothing like Spider-Man at all so this is a terrible sign

We forgetting the Fist Of The North Star Live Action movie from 1995? Or that bootleg Taiwanese DragonBall movie?
And yet for it to supposedly be nothing like Spider-Man at all it’s more popular than the Tobey Marguire films ever were. |

I very much doubt that. Especially from a pop culture perspective. Heck Spider-Man 2 is still often considered the best Spider-Man movie(and one of the best super-hero movies of all time). |

It would be very cool if everyone casted was Asian but I'm sure we'll end up with Dragonball Evolution style casting or Cowboy Bebop live action flop results... the thing with One Piece live action is that Hollywood actually has a good history with pirate films. Ninja stuff that's been thru Hollywood hasn't gotten good results...

It would be insanely hard to find at this point but I remember in the print version of Shonen Jump there was some sort of interview with Kishimoto where he spoke about a hypothetical Naruto live action movie. I don't remember if it was about Naruto specifically or if it applied to the whole cast, but he basically said he would be open to a non-asian actor. Who knows how he feels about it now, but that answer stuck with me because it wasn't what I'd have expected. |

Both of those have been received very well in general, so not sure where you're getting this. |

All Spider-Man films have their issues. Tobey is a good Peter but a bad Spider-Man. Andrew was a good Spider-Man but a bad Peter Parker. Tom is bad at both but then the character isn't really Spider-Man so much as Iron Man Jr and the MCU changes a lot of stuff and isn't trying to be like the comics at all unlike the previous ones at least tried to do. Which is to say this movie will probably not be very accurate to the manga. The fact he's glazing Hollywood and the director is already a bad sign. Mangaka really do get starstruck and give up everything for that Hollywood glamour. |

This is going to suck so badly. I can't wait to see how stiff the acting is and how the directors/writers are going to change things because they personally don't like specific things.

It's pretty funny how people are trying to spin the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies as unpopular whihc is just not based in any kind of reality given how much money those films made. No Way Home alone made almost 2 billion dollars. While I do agree that the Tom Holland Spider Man movies didn't feel a lot like the character that much in the first 2 movies, but No Way Home did a lot to fix that and it even ended by bringing Spider Man back to basics and taking away all of those elements people say make him not feel like Spider Man. Another thing, it seems like everyone here has completely forgotten that the first 3 Marvel/Sony movies were directed by Jon Watts and not Destin Daniel Cretin who had nothing to do with those movies until this new one. So none of those things people are complaining about here with not being faithful had nothing to do with him anyway. Brand New Day hasn't even come out yet, so we can't use that as a reason why this could be bad yet.
I also think it's incredibly silly how poeple here are trying to frame Shang Chi as unpopular when it is widely considered to be one of the only MCU movies past Endgame that was any good. Now does that mean that I think this Live Action Naruto is going to be any good, hell no, but that has nothing to do with how I feel about the director because most of his films have been really good so far. Naruto is one of my favorite anime and the chances of this being good are very small partially because most arcs are way too long to fit into a movie. I'm just hoping that at least the fights will look cool, my expectations being so low and given how good the fight choreography was in Shang Chi I hope we can at least get that, even if everything else is bad. |

Yep, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day shattered global records by pulling in an unprecedented 718.6 million views in its first 24 hours. It quickly surpassed the trailer debut for Deadpool & Wolverine and the video game Grand Theft Auto VI, eventually crossing 1 billion views in just 4 days to become the most-watched trailer in movie history Dunno where people are getting that it's unpopular - when it's the farthest thing from that |

Db: NWH did well, because it was before the comic book movie bubble popped.
