I'm very curious to see how non anime fans will react to this movie if they watch it. It may be based on anime/manga but its also closely follows real world history with some tweaks.

That was a nice little piece of information. This makes me feel like watching the live action, since it's mentioned that the story follows more closely to real history.
Yeah as said very aptly in the write up, Japanese history especially of the long years of wars seems to be romanticized quiet a bit. That's why the real grave facts of intense violence and grief that these might have caused to actual people living then may not come out right in the anime version of many stories of Shinsengumi or Sengoku Jidai, etc.

I would love to see the action in this on the big screen, and I really enjoy historical pieces, but A) the nearest theatre to me that is showing it (as of now, at least) is nearly 3 hours away; and B) I can't justify spending $30 for tickets ($10 for each segment) - plus the gas to drive there and back - for something I would only be able to watch once.
