First off, do not pay $40 for a pair of Stickyle scissors; they're available on import sites for much less than that, though you may have to do a little hunting. Also, they're awesome; my Sailor Mercury and Sailor Venus pairs get a fair amount of use.
Also, I've bought the Pokemon cookie cutters as a gift before; don't know how much of a hit they were, as they were a secondary gift along with some more exciting stuff from Pokemon Center Can vouch for a handful of the other items, like Gundam Breaker 4 (I should be wrapping up the main campaign of that today) and the Steam Deck. Also enjoying some of the more unusual offerings-- that Macross Plus box set is bananas. Love these articles every year! (Though a quick PS - the link to the Collectibles page is broken ) |

Pretty interesting choices in the collectibles. I will say that Jazzware's anime figures do look a lot better in person. Erin (AOT) looks especially bad in pictures, but pretty good in hand. I think they've done a better job than BST ACTN at the same price point.
Not crazy about Mondo's Ein figure, but they do tend to take a lot of liberties with their stuff. Emerje |

I applaud the choice of the Gushing Over Magical Girls set, since I have a surprising affection for the show. However, it should be noted that, unless you need it immediately for the upcoming holidays, patience generally pays off with Sentai Filmworks releases. They have site sales frequently, and after six months or a year sets can get heavily discounted. So if you'd prefer to get it substantially cheaper, wait a while.
When I say things can get cheaper, I mean sometimes REALLY cheap. Sentai is having a Black Friday sale right now, and the $98 dollar set for Chihayafuru (Season 2) is currently available for $6. (!!!) The $130 Complete K-On! set (all 41 episodes and the movie) is now $30, not bad for one of the all time classic anime. And a personal suggestion: The tragically overlooked comedy Wasteful Days of High School Girls set is available for a paltry $12. Give it a try, you might love it as much as I do. Lots more shows as as well. Give their site a look. I have no connection with Sentai other than having bought many, many of their wares over the years. |

This. Over the weekend, I bought 4 Blu-ray sets for a total of under $60. I have at least 3 limited edition box sets that I've purchased for a fraction of the retail price. Truly the best deal for anime physicals I have ever encountered. Despite whatever problems I have with Hidive, I hope they exist well into the future, because it means Sentai will keep on cranking out physical releases at very affordable prices. |

You can't forget the Godzilla shoes worn by the Godzilla team when they accepted the best VFX Oscars. Shoes are available next year but they are for reservation now.

Another fan of Sentai sales here! Thanks for the reminder, and happy to see that the discounts are still fantastic. |

Sentai sales don't always pay off necessarily. Their Another anime series never did get a price drop, and now that it's off the market, you can only find it for close to $100 just for DVD.

Generally, for things I really, really want, my rule is to wait until they are at least discounted 50% off. I got the original K-ON! premium set (SRP of $280) at that point, and ultimately I think it never really got much cheaper than that until it went OOP. I was thinking Bloom Into You premium was another one. From double checking it, I got it discounted at like 65% off (so better than my minimum), but I remember it never getting discounted much beyond that at any point after I bought it until it also went OOP. But it's true that many of their premiums do get discounted to an extreme degree on the Sentai Store eventually. |

Getting back to the gift guide, I downloaded the digital version of Under the Oak Tree this morning. I'm about 70 pages in. It is a literal bodice ripper. The translation reads well. It will be interesting to see where this goes. Recommended.

unfortunately there wasn't anything cool that i don't already have but then again I'm a retro anime fan so i should be used to not seeing anime advertised to my side of the fandom. I might snag the Zillion set as i loved emulating the master system games on sloppy flash based web emulators not knowing they were based on an anime.

Agreed. With TRSI being in the corporate-way now, and DeepDiscount not being what it used to be, it is good to see Sentai picking up where their retail partners left-off. Is there a rhyme or reason for which titles got linked back to their encyclopedia entries? None of the blu-rays were noted (but on a second pass it looks to be more about finding which part of the title is actually linked and avoiding those only pointing to Shout,) and a bit under half of the books (not even being a sponsored listing seemed to seal the deal) refer back for those that want to look into the properties further. |
