What the??? Shocked

OK, that's something I didn't really expect to see. Gundam Wing and Overwatch 2 in the same title together, also why Gundam Wing and not something like G-Witch or Gundam GQuuuuuuX since that one is more recent. Confused

Because more people in the west are likely more familiar with Wing than G-Witch or the other one.

Yeah, getting home from school to watch Wing is a core memory with a lot of millennials who (I assume) are a large chunk of Overwatch's player base. If this were 2035 I'm sure the partnership would be with Seed/Seed Destiny Laughing

But Gundam Wing hasn't gotten any recent mainstream hype or trend in the US not since early 2000's, that's why I questioned why would they choose Gundam Wings over G-Witch or GQuuuuuuX since those are recent, and more well-known amongst Gen Z anime fans. Did I missed a viral trend where Gundam Wings is getting meme-d or a surge in views with Gen Z fans? That's why I don't understand why would Overwatch 2 is having Gundam Wings when they could use G-Witch or any most recent Gundam titles to collaborate.

So who are Overwatch particularly Overwatch 2's gamer demographic made of? Because I'm not into that type of game (I'm more of a COD/Battlefield type of guy), because I don't think current Millennials would be playing that game, I could imagine Gen Z be playing that game.

Hence my question on my OP: Why Gundam Wings when that anime has kind of lost it's relevance today, I mean Evangelion is still going strong after many years, but not Gundam Wings?

Gundam Wings hasn't been rebroadcasted nor is not on any other streaming sites beside Crunchyroll, and I don't see it getting trended or hyped recently, so please explain?

Well, ain't the clear answer for that marketing stunt is literally on article picture there - with Wing having 30th anniversary this exact year (already had, to be exactly)?

Other then the 30th anniversary, I'm not sure why Gundam Wings was chosen given that there's no mainstream hype or trend for the series given that it's not up to the god-tier pop culture relevance like compared to Evangelion. Now if Overwatch 2 was collaborating with Evangelion, I would understand why they did that. But Gundam Wings, I'm not sure other then it's 30th anniversary, I don't fully understand it.

You’re overthinking matters yes you are right in the sense that Gundam Wing hasn’t been on American TV in years but that doesn’t really matter all that much.

Of all the Gundam series that came over to the west from G Gundam, 00, MS 08th Team, SD Gundam, War In The Pocket, Iron Blooded Orphans and even the original Gundam. It’s was a gateway series for many kids back in 00’s. Hence why they chose it instead of the newer stuff.

Same way for the Transformers Collaboration from last year they went with the original 1984 cartoon instead of for example Beast Wars or the Bayfomers stuff.

Or them unexpectedly doing a Cowboy Bebop Collaboration.

They’re likely choosing this stuff both on the basis of nostalgia and what many people are familiar with.
