YEESH, that's one way to clean up at retail even with only three days. People hoping for any sort of flop should pack it in

As I mentioned in the article regarding the Switch 2's first days sales in its first 4 days, the Switch 2's launch week in Japan surpassed the PS2's debut week from the year 2000 in which it sold 630,552 units. At this point I don't think there's any reason why the Switch 2 shouldn't be a huge success in Japan, and I'd even say it's quite possible that it will manage to outsell the PS5 in Japan this year, especially considering that perhaps the majority of PS5s sold in Japan were exported out of the country, something that does not apply to the Switch 2 since the majority of the units sold in Japan are region locked, something which was probably a smart move.
In terms of software sales, Mario Kart World had the biggest debut any game in the series with 782,566, the previous record holder was MK Wii with 608,147 copies sold. Regarding other Switch 2 titles, well, I didn't expect a lot of sales for other titles, though I'm impressed by Rune Factory selling 10,877 copies and Yakuza 0 actually charted on number 9 with 7,486 copies. Street Fighter 6 managed to sell over 5k copies, by the way, it seems Key Card Games are counted as physical releases, which means it actually sold more copies than City of the Wolves sold in its first week, that's gotta hurt for SNK, wonder if they have planned a NSW2 version for CotW
Cyberpunk 2077 at number 17 with 4,070 copies doesn't surprise me, while the original release on PS4 debuted at 2nd place back in 2020 and managed to sell 104,687 copies that week. Late ports are a tough sell and I don't think there's a audience for the Switch port of the game in Japan, I've heard is performing much better internationally. Don't think this will reflect the future performace for third-party ports for the Switch 2, the user base still needs to grow and it has to be a much more popular game for Japanese audiences.

Never underestimate the power of consumerism. "But it's got a new Mario Kart!"

Yep just as said last week, very interesting week. And with a new Splatoon game on the way the Switch 2 has a bright future ahead of it's self. Now please Nintendo get those restocks going ASAP, I would very much like one before Donkey Kong Bananza at the earliest, Kirby Air Riders at the latest.
