I heard of a video game forum here. i think it would be a good idea seeing that many anime and manga fans also like video games. I mean every now and then we talk about them here. anyone else thinks its an ok thing?

 . Talking about newly released ,great hits or soon to be released games, It's a great idea indeed. Thanks for the info Viga_of_stars. [maybe they will have a videogame forum here,most people would love that.] 
EDIT**Forgot to say, that I'm a gamer too. spoiler[Can't wait for God Of war 2.  ]

Video games are my number one hobby, but it's been my experience with anime forums that all people talk about are RPGs. More importatnly it ends with 100 threads about what a great game final fantasy seven is. And I can't stand RPGs (aside from bioware made ones) so it's sort of a non point to me.

As much as I enjoy the Final Fantasy series, I never cared for Final Fantasy 7. But I'm sure there'll be more topics then ones about Final Fantasy. FF 4 and 6 FTW! Hurry up Thursday! |

Although there will be other topics, I'm pretty sure FFVII will pop up somewhere in there, then BAM!, people are yelling left and right, flame wars will take over the forum, some of the lines will be put in the "Perfect/Poignant Quotes" thread, then more and more yelling will occur in the anime forum, starting gaming threads where they don't belong. Leading to unimaginable amounts of locked threads that not even the 3 new moderators could keep up with. This would then lead to plethora (sp?) of links to game sites in an attempt to prove whatever the hell they're trying to prove which would then lead to MORE spam bots and porn advertisors that would continually grow until the site just went DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN..........FFVII WAS my personal fav. But it has many flaws, I normally don't have a favorite anything, it's just too hard to choose, but I also love FFIV, FFVI, FFIX, FFX, FFXII, and the trailer for FF XIII AND Versus XIII........I also liked Advent Children and The Spirits Within (but Spirits would've been better if it didn't have the FF name in it, and was more of JUST a movie project that Square did.)

Man, why limit it to only anime games? Even if some here like them, it's no secret that more often then not, they're horrible. Otherwise, there can only be so many .hack, Disgaea, Final Fantasy and Viewtiful Joe threads before the well runs dry. Make it all games. Video games and Anime are synonomous anyway, and you will have a lot less cleaning up to do.

I'd rather not have a bunch of CS-tards flood in here saying stuff like "h3y iM g0nn4 k1LL j00r d00dz" and WoW addicts posting about how they just gained 5 levels within the hour. There's GameFAQs forums for that. |

I love my games as much as the next guy, and if a game-related section popped up here, I'd certainly read and post in it... but I am a little unsure of whether or not we need/ should have one. Videogames and anime (and their fandoms) frequently intermingle, but they are certainly not interchangeable. This site keeps up such a level of professionalism ans maturity in its forums, I'd afraid of losing that quality by overstretching into similar, but technically unrelated, fandoms.

Well, the mods have a zero tolerance policy about "133t 5p33k", and Something so simple and mindless as "yeah, I have a level 88 Palidin wizard night elf dwarf lol!!!!11" would get removed as well. They'd just stress normal intellegent discussion like the do the other forums. Besides, are you implying that "SESSHIE IS MY BISHIE! *GLOMP*" isnt the least bit retarded?

I say there should be one. I mean it's only fair to give those of us here who love video games, including the anime based or series specific games (imports), a place to talk about them. MOst other forums I post at have a video game section. As for the spammers.....like we don't already have that now anyway? At least a video game section may help thin some of them out so they don't all blow up the anime section. Besides, if you wanna get rid of the "my wizard is cooler then you're paladin" people just let loose Selenta and Nagisa. I fear what the two of them could do together, I can almost feel the burn they would give people already. Better put on my helmet and hide more often now......

Since I've been on ANN forums, it has been restricted to discussion of anime and things related to anime (the website, manga, J-music, Japan, etc.). Anime-related/adapted video games I can understand why there would be a forum made for, but video games in general have basically nothing to do with anime. Many (most) anime forums have subfora for more general discussion outside of anime, but discussion outside of a forum's general area of focus tends to breed retardation in the masses, and will most likely make a lot more work for moderators. And while anime-related games can go hand-in-hand with anime in terms of anime fans' interests, non-related games such as Halo are barely, if at all related to anime and anime fans' interests, and basically, is just a narrowed form of general discussion, which ANN doesn't have for a good reason. I mean, otherwise, we could push it even more right? Collectable cards, American animation, sports, technology... |

Yeah because those are the type of people you get at anime boards. You are ten times more likely to see "HEI GUYS I REALLY LIEK KINGDOM HEARTS 2 WHEN IT THE THIRD OEN COMMING OUT?" And if there is a video game section it would be pretty dumb to have it only for anime based games, especially since they are generally awful. |

I sure hope my offhand comment from this morning didn't start this mess.
To the people saying that if we allow a video game forum, we will then have to allow other things: besides being a slippery-slope fallacy, "we" can't do anything. Tempest has the final word on what forums there will be. To the people complaining that such a forum would bring idiocy, thus ruining this professionally run forum: that makes no sense considering there is plenty of idiocy in other anime forums. It is dependent upon how strict the site is in enforcing rules that dictates the quality of discussion. I need not explain what is wrong with making rash generalizations about what video game players are theoretically going to do. To the people saying that it will be more work for the moderators: it is not a question of whether or not it will be more work for the moderators, of course it will. More threads, more posts and more users mean more work to maintain order. The question is whether or not that which can be gained from having the forum is worth that extra effort. I must admit, I have no idea. It is dependent upon what Tempest wants from having these forums exist. To the people saying this is an anime/manga site, discussion should be kept to anime and manga. You are correct in that it is the precedent. To the people arguing that there should be a video game forum because there are a lot of video game fans here: besides being an argument from popularity, any of a number of other things are also very popular amongst the ANN users, so singling out this one thing in order to justify your position is illogical. To the person who said that having a video game forum would lead to people posting links that would cause more spambots which would eventually lead to the site going down: uh...I have no idea. To the people saying that just having an anime-based video game forum makes no sense: you are correct in that such discussions can, and are, already carried out here in the threads involving the anime. You cannot use it to justify there being a general video game forum since you have not made an argument for why the anime-based video game forum is needed. To the people saying that just having an anime-based video game forum makes no sense because all anime-based video games are terrible: while it is possible to post evidence such as professional game reviews to help the premise, you would still have to make an argument for why it would not be good to have a forum that only discussed poorly made games. If it seems to you that I'm simply arguing against both sides for the fun of it: I know I would personally like a video game forum here simply because of how professionally run this anime forum is. Of course, this would mean that the same level of professionalism would have to be maintained with the addition of the video game forum. I'm afraid I don't have enough experience with forums to know what the odds of that happening are. I do know I would love to be able to have an intelligent discussion regarding Xenosaga, something that cannot be done if people are allowed to post a one-liner about how much they want to have sex with MOMO. 
I apologize if I upset anyone. Go through my post; maybe you can spot things that I said that don't make sense and then you can get revenge.
