Perfect Blue is complex and gruesome, but nonetheless one of those incredible movies that you have to watch more than once, so I am looking forward to this release. It has aged incredibly well when taking into account how the Internet, Social Media and AI have been distorting reality for years.

I read rumors that there was an uncut version, albeit I suspect that that's the original unedited version (I.e. it includes Mima's photoshoot and that infamous pizza scene).

There was an edited version Manga made way back in the 90s for VHS because the MPAA at the time refused to give it an R rating so they produced an edited version to get an R rating for the film but the version existing on all modern releases is the only full version of the film that exists.

Every detail in Perfect Blue makes me feel creepy and unforgettable. Does anyone know of similar works?

I remember when I could afford to drop $100 on an elaborate physical release.

Paranoia Agent (2004) and Paprika (2006) are also by Satoshi Kon, and are similar to Perfect Blue. He passed away tragically young (46), so he only has two other films (Millennium Actress, 2000; Tokyo Godfathers, 2003). They're much lighter than his other works, albeit still wonderful.

Serial Experiments Lain (1998) is another disturbing series that also predicted how the Internet would dominate the 21st Century.

Any of Junji Ito's manga will have the same effect (albeit the anime adaptations are sadly flops Very Happy )

GKIDS/Shout! doesn't usually have a lot of sales on Collector's Editions. Although, I do remember Belle (2021) and Weathering With You (2019) eventually dropping to 40-ish% off the MSRP on Amazon before possibly going out of print.

However, for Perfect Blue, GKIDS/Shout! currently have it on pre-order for about $80, right now. Shipping is free for orders in the U.S. over $75, so you're really just paying sales tax.

Alternatively, if you're like me and have an Amazon Visa card that earns points, you can use said points for however much of a discount you want off that $100 MSRP.
