I've got a couple friends that are bothering to give Dissidia a try, and they're saying it already feels like it's gonna go the way of First Solider - once the content they're already having come down the pipeline expires, they'll fleece the playerbase for "It's a New Game OMG!" cash and then it's gone. On to the next one, and so on.....

Given how generous the game is (such as seasons never expiring), it is very clearly made more with getting young people in Japan into the wider franchise in mind rather than "fleecing" anybody

But reality has never gotten in the way of Final Fantasy "fans" complaining and making up their own reality in their head (like FF mobage instantly dying when practically all of them bar First Soldier last 4+ years), so why stop now?

Duellum has some big shoes to fill. Opera Omnia, which shut down in 2024, was so well-liked for mining that very "Final Fantasy characters interacting with each other and having conversations" vein that one fan spent years archiving all the game's cutscenes ahead of its closure.

I've played Opera Omnia when it first came out and that game was a freaking great game for a mobile game. The universe it created made all the Final Fantasy characters’ stories fit together, making the game continuously have new content.

I have been looking forward on playing Dissidia Duellum but.... it's not available for my region. Definitely a big difference from its predecessor.
