I have a question thats a little to detailed for General Questions.

I have things that gundam seed destiny is not that good of a series. If this were true and someone was interested in seeing it but not the whole thing then are the tv movies sequels or a re-telling that would cover up much of the series without having to first watch the entire series.

As a fan of SEED, I wholeheartedly recommend you REFRAIN from watching Destiny. It ruined the entire continuity and messed up everything they worked to achieve in the first series.

I bought the Limited Edition Vol.1 a while ago, but then heard so much negative feedback for the series as a whole that I decided to watch it via fansubs. It sort of had me for the first 20 episodes, despite the main character being a total, major, overly-exuberant, giant dickhead. But then they screwed the rest of the characters up and made so many awful, contradicting scenarios that I have no idea to this day what the writers were smoking when they thought this all up.

Back when I went into a SEED binge, I made a thread to cover both series. I recommend you read the spoilers just so you don't waste 1,000+ minutes of your life over a series that wasn't worth the big investment I almost made for buying all those DVDs.

I have been trying to tell people for the longest that destiny does not exist and is a figment of our imaginations (I like to pretend it never happen so it doesn't ruin seed.) don't even bother acknowledging it. just read the spoilers here or wikipedia it but don't watch it. You might want to give a couple of the theme songs a listen though.

Destiny has a movie compilation. It is called Gundam Seed Destiny Special Edition. There are four volumes, each containing a movie of ninety minutes. The movies consist mostly of what would be called clip shows--glorified recaps, in other words, though there are scenes which were reanimated and plot points whose chronological positions were changed. For those who have watched the series, they are decent for quick reminders of what happened in the series. For those who haven't, it's one way of finishing an eighteen hour series in six. Gundam Seed also has such a movie compilation. As to whether the movies are worth viewing, well, I happened to like Destiny in spite of hating Shinn Asuka's guts, but I'm in a dismally small minority in that respect.

If you ever intend to become obsessive enough to argue with Gundam otakus about plot points in the Cosmic Era setting, though, you would have to watch the movie compilations (regardless of whether you've seen the series). Officially, the SEs replace the TV series in the canon, and this card is frequently pulled when the opposition is losing ground by the events of the TV series. (Yes, I was obsessed enough with Seed to argue in such a manner on a Gundam board to find out about this. Fortunately, I wasn't so obsessed as to go and watch the SEs; I just left).

Shinn was only one of many, many problems the series had and I would argue he was one of the smaller problems, except that the many other issues made him a bigger problem as the series went on.
