This is in response to the open letter to Newtype USA from the respected Manga Entertainment Inc.. It seems Manga was "offended" by the "EVA Deuce" segment based on Evangelion: "Death and Rebirth" and "End". Although Manga made several legitimate points they fail to realize a few things. One being that the piece was based on an opinion. I personally think the Evangelion series is one of the best and innovative Anime releases ever.
When the initial series ended most fans would agree that the ending was one of the biggest fiascoes ever (other would say it was a masterful way of ending the series). In any case the studio attempted to "correct" the series to an acceptable ending. Many would argue it failed again to do so, and again many would say it was a terrific end. I feel that in no way is Newtype or parent co ADV has "maligned" any product or studio in any way. In fact on page 43 in the "Making a Modern Masterpiece" segment it states "...Madhouse and TV Tokyo employ the ingenuity to create masterpieces like Neon Genesis: Evangelion, ....". Later on page 173 the magazine pushes the new capsule toys for Evangelion. In all three segments dedicated to Evangelion. I hope that in the future people, whether associated with a studio, or fans would be objective and grow in the Anime community as well as appreciate the efforts to push the Anime movement. |
