I'm curious, what do Sailor Moon fans who have seen any of this think of it? And how closely does it follow the anime?

I have never really watched Sailor Moon, but I had nothing better to do while at a convention earlier today so I decided to sit down and watch an airing of the first three episodes. The action and special effects were laughably awful and the transformation scenes got boring by the second time around, but overall I liked it. The acting seems pretty good and the series has a certain charm about it.

I heard that it was a 'it's so bad, it's good' type of series. I only watched about 10 episodes and yes, it is cheesy. But that doesn't hinder the amount of entertainment you get from it, (I choose to laugh at it on occasion) and there's a cult following for it as well.

You can always read a preview of it here:

I've kept up with it since the beginning and it definitely gets better after the first 10 episodes or so. There's only about 5 episodes left of the series now.

As for how close to the anime it is.....it's not. It's very loosely based on the manga.

If you've seen sentai all your life like me, then you expect the cheesy special effects and the monster of the week stuff to begin with. Since I'm a fan of sentai, I actually like this series.

It tends to follow the anime more than the manga.

Here are some examples

spoiler[The 4 generals of Queen Beryl were originally Endymions
The wings on Sailor Moon's head
Mamoru is aware he is Tuxedo Mask the whole time
And some other stuff]

I think you have it backwords. It follows the manga more than the anime.

I love the live action show. It has the cheesyness the anime was known for, and eventually a really great story. However, it could of done without the Sailor Luna, or the... special... learn to dance extra. *cringes*

I absolutely love this show. It's a whole new dimention of Sailor Moon and it gives it life. The characters are great, especially the girls who are good actresses. The only one I can truly say is HOT is Aino Minako (Sailor Venus) since she's the only one who's 18, but the other girls are quite charming.

This is a show that you must not judge using the first few eps, since the creative staff and directors change as the show progressed. The fight scenes definitely improve as the show goes on, and so does the story.

Unless you're an SOS member, I suggest you check it out and enjoy.

Yea it's very cheesy but it's enjoyable. That's what I think, I really like it but don't expect anything serious.
