At first I was thinking "Oh Japan, you so crazy. Making a life-sized, totally realistic replica of a popular cartoon robot." Then I remembered that the National Cathedral (a real, serious church) in Washington D.C. has a gargoyle of Darth Vader.
So yeah, can the company that made the life-sized Gundam come over here and make a life-sized Millennium Falcon next?

Crazy? It looks like a perfectly normal way to appreciate a cultural phenomenon like Gundam. I am a little surprised that the statue doesn't have a permanent location.

Considering the trees and the pathway nearby where darwinfish has shot his videos, one wonders what could be constructed in that area. I'm looking forward to his April 19th opening video.

It seems to have gotten a lot of mileage, so far. I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to "tour" it for a while, before maybe settling on a permanent site.
Just had a crazy thought that maybe they should build more of these statues, all situated outside the political capital buildings of major countries, facing towards the buildings with sabre beam swords in hand...just to remind the various powers that be that they work for the people. Like I said...a crazy thought.
