It couldn't be that the fans of the novels are pushing the series along because they like the adaptation. Surely only the decent reviewers are factually correct in their opinion, lucky for them that they agree with your opinion....

Indeed. Good thing we have decent reviewers to tell us what to like and not like, or we might actually form our own opinions by accident.

I've never seen Horizon, so I can't comment on whether it's good or bad. However, the pre-existing readership was small (and has barely grown), so popularity is based on the anime itself.
That said, 2ch really hyped Horizon prior to broadcast, so it probably benefited from a lot more pre-release momentum than many shows.

Well, for the record, Horizon was my favorite show from the fall season, and I haven't read the novels.
I didn't love it quite enough to buy it though (which means I didn't buy any other fall shows either).
I haven't seen Haganai, Shana, or Ika Musume yet, so I suppose that might change.

Just 3,000 to go. |
Despite what some people are saying, Guilty Crown's animation quality isn't that spectacular. It's good, but it's not so insanely great that it cost tons more to animate.
I'm not going to guess how much it cost to produce, or how many copies it needs to break even, but I'm guessing if it somehow doesn't sell enough copies to recoup production costs, the soundtrack will surely cover the rest. |
Well it's certainly around the level of Fate/Zero (Which probably had the highest production values per episode of any 2011 anime series.).

And the Japanese are selling it at two episodes at around $55 per release. That is saying something, they still have 10 more releases to go.
