Why do people think that this kind of subject matter is automatically better than anything else?

The controversial-ending author was probably just being a self-righteous jerk, like that one famous manga-ka who wrote a really cheesy and cliche story arc about someone being enslaved, and basically said that anyone who didn't like it was just first world problems.

Huge shoutout to 86. Handles the sensitive matter extremely well and characters are also very well written and developed.

Consider its awe-inspiring popularity, an anime adaptation is not a matter of “will it get one?” but rather “When it will air and what studio?”

86 is definitely going to get an anime adaptation since there are dozens of western corporations that would be more than happy to fully fund it. I am honestly surprised that the light novels haven't been licensed since it is about a genocidal white supremacist government which would make it virtue signalling gold. That it is a futuristic war story with child soldiers fighting spider drones is just an added bonus.

86 and Witch of Tata sound interesting; i'd check them out if they were in english. I'd probably skip Hello, Hello, and Hello though, for the same reason i haven't watched One Week Friends; it just sounds too sad.

Interested in 86.

Read "That Alone Would Have Been Good Enough", pretty nice stuff overall, could have used of a more likeable and developed cast, although rather that was on purpose or not is YMMV to be fair.

As for "The Witch of Tata", well... They seem to get the tata part pretty well I guess, those are huge. Laughing

I could see The Witch of Tata getting licensed. Isekai and big boobs on the cover.

That Alone Would Have Been Good Enough's premise sounds unusually similar to When Hikaru was on the earth.

86 sounds interesting, it does seem like good anime material, so yeah probably it should get one in like 1 or 2 years.

Also from the Dengeki Novel Prize winners I really love Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, I really hope the LN gets licensed in english.

Definitely wish Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens was licensed in English. Although it took Yen Press a long time to license cousin Durarara. I will never understand YPs licenses anyway...except licensing stuff conveniently a short while before an anime is announced (Goblin Slayer, Slime, etc)

I'm guessing I'm missing something but 86 cover features and all white cast... If those are indeed the main characters isn't that kinda missing the point:

"Isn't racism based on skin tone awful! Oh btw, don't make your main character non white that would sink sales" Rolling Eyes

Otherwise non of these really pick my interest. I like the idea of a story not featuring a main character and following multiple people (Tata) but I'm really burned on isekai and that cover seems designed to make it impossible to take the story seriously.

I've never read it, but I imagine "people of color" just means Japanese, and it's about Japanese people living under not!American rule and rising up against them. Or the description is horribly being misconstrued by the article.

Actually the description of 86 is pretty far off the mark? The handler is the white haired girl at the front, and all the soldiers in the back are the commoner kids. It's a class system of nobles and commoners rather than a white supremacist thing (considering everybody is white/asian). I'm actually a bit surprised anyone would throw such a term around so loosely. Anyhow, the premise looks interesting, and I'm getting some Valkyria Chronicles vibe from it.

Ye, the art looks pretty nice if anything. Got that whole High School of the Dead feel.

Ye, I'm also super scared of being crushed by the end of it. Don't want to set myself up for it, heard plastic memories ended the same, so I had to stop watching while it was still just fun & games. (How did I even survive Violet Evergarden?!)

Absolutely.
Though, I can't imagine anyone ever being brave enough to do an official translation.
