I agree the MC being 30something years old feels like a positive change from your regular shounen, and his dynamic with his kouhai is pretty fun too, but for some reason nothing else impressed me about this manga...
I specially don't care for the Shinomiya girl (she's just not my type of character).

Art is good and the suits are cool, but in my opinion secondary characters' first impression are not that interesting (which is usually what I like in any manga/show; the cast). I've only read up to volume 2 so I kinda want to keep reading but I also don't find it that amazing.

Similar to the above poster, I found Kaiju no.8 to be perfectly likable, but not much else. Like, I do appreciate the protagonist being 30, and I really did likehow the story plays with that in the first few chapters, but after a while he starts to just feel like any ol battle manga protagonist without much distinctive edge to him. I was also left wanting more from the secondary cast (especially our lead's rival/love interest) and while the art is good and the action reads clear nothing in it quite exited me on the level that battles from Jujutsu Kaisen or World Trigger would (Though, to be fair, those battle prioritize very different things). I will say though I do always get some joy out of the kaiju being these truly weird inhuman things and the various things our main character finds out about his body.

Try as I might, I can't really find anything wrong with the manga, and I'm genuinely happy that it's found an audience and is fairly successful, but as for me, it's perfectly fine, but unless I hear about some major shake up happen for the story later down the road, I'll feel as though I read my fill (I wanna say like 30 something chapters?) and fine with moving on to something else.
